EA To Show “Next Generation Of FIFA” At Tomorrow’s Xbox Event

Sony may have attempted (and some might say, with some success) to spoil Microsoft’s party today with their blurry but enticing teaser for PlayStation 4, but the Xbox still has some big guns to play with, and it’s all gearing up nicely.

We already know that the behemoth that is Call of Duty will get an exclusive showcase tomorrow, but tonight it has emerged that EA are also going in strong.

EA were noticeably absent from Sony’s February reveal, but that won’t be the case with Microsoft’s new Xbox demonstration tomorrow. For starters they’re showing off the “next generation of FIFA” at the event [via] but it’s also possible that a new UFC [via] will be unveiled during the conference.

Whilst nobody’s thinking that next-gen FIFA will be exclusive to the next Xbox, it’s a clear signal that Microsoft can still pull in the biggest names in the business to promote their hardware.

The new Xbox will be revealed at 6pm UK time. We’ll have everything as it happens.

  1. I wonder if they thought “we can’t match them for diversity of content and exclusive IPs so we’ll just hit them with a sledgehammer and win most folk over with giant franchises”?

A marketing ploy I despise and respect. :-)

    • This. Whilst it’s a great ploy it’s also one I hate. Microsoft seem to just try and throw huge sums of money at third party publishers in order to make their console look more enticing, instead of investing in original, fresh and unique new exclusive IP’s. Sony have battered them on the PS3/360 gen with better and more original exclusives in my opinion, and they seem to aim for diversity. Xbox has this common perception to me of being a ‘dudebro’ macho console where it’s the home for loud, ‘explodery’ games.

      • More worryingly is that with that will probably come exclusive advertising deals where every EA advert says “On Xbox 720” (or whatever it’s called) so that people who don’t actually think for themselves (a lot of people) assume it’s only out on Xbox. That’s what annoys me.

      • Indeed. There are alot of people who will fall for that. Every major news site will pick up on the reveal, as they did with the PS4, and when the more misguided consumer stumbles upon an article saying ‘the latest COD, Fifa and Battlefield was shown off at the Xbox 720 reveal’ they will instantly think, ‘Aww man, I’m gonna have to get that console’.

    • There was this rumor floating about that said Microsoft was half a year behind schedule on first party next gen titles. If that’s really the case then they had no other choice than to get in bed with big third party publishers to get anyone interested in the next Xbox.

  2. I said this before in one of the post. MS & EA Xbox is going be the main home for FIFA now they going claim

    • Only if Europeans buy the nextbox over ps4…

Fifa still dominates saleswise on ps3 due to Football being European fanbase. EA would be unwise to forget that Fifa sells more on Sony’s platform..

  3. One truly wonders what this reveal could hold…football, perhaps?!

  4. but they will be on PS4 as well what big guns?

    • plus no disrespect to the games but if Sony showed Fifa & COD at the PS4 reveal it would have bored me.

  5. I’m more interested in new IP rather than generic game #52 or sports franchise #21.

Surely the people who only play cod/fifa will just buy it on ps3/360 anyway lol.

They are the people who spend £300+ on a new console to play just cod/fifa right? right? :)

  6. While I’m never switching for Xbox, I really am curious to see their new console. Good competition usually breeds good games for us. But so far all I see are the usual suspects on the multi-platform, multiple selling AAA series. I really hope they have some interesting exclusives of their own and not just timed exclusives or DLC.

  7. …and for the first time in the History of FIFA you will be able to play with a team consisting solely of Microsoft executives!

    • Yes since his retirement from football Stephan Kuntz has joined Microsoft board. :D

  8. Not being funny but how more next gen can a football game be, other than graphics? It’s way too simulated as it is on the last one. Football games need to be fun and it seems these latest FIFA games just aren’t that, well to me anyway.

    Bring back Sensible Soccer.

    • Listen to this man… He speaks sense. Bring back Sensible Soccer!

  9. Typical Microsoft tactics; throw money at it to cover up its faults. I hope MS will show some first-party games, but it’s not looking that way.
