Microsoft: “No TV Talk” At E3, All About The Games

The video above is an exaggeration, of course, but it sums up the lasting impression from Microsoft’s bumbled reveal of the Xbox One. E3, however, will be all about the games.

“I can confirm that we will have TV’s (or similar) on stage to show the games,” said Microsoft’s Larry Hryb today when quizzed about the press conference content.

“That should be the extent of TV talk.”

Microsoft’s press conference is 90 minutes. We’re sending Peter and Kris in for the full thing, so if Major Nelson’s lying we’ll be mildly discontented to say the least.

In related news, US journalist Geoff Keighley has teased that this year’s pre-E3 conferences will be the “strongest in years” and promises “lots of games and suprises.”

10 days. We’re nearly there.

  1. well hopefully they have learned from their mistake. I hope they have some cracking games to show, same goes for Sony.

    • No, this whole thing is their mistake, splitting up the “Hey! It’s a crazy media box!” and the “Oh! Shiny new games!” into two separate conferences, without really explaining the situation well enough for people to grasp.

If they’d come out on stage for the original unveiling, and said “Here’s the Xbox One, and this is just a sneaky look at some games which we’ll go into much more detail about at E3.” Then moved on to talk media and functionality, that would have been perfect.

People might have been unsatisfied at the amount of games shown, but would have it clear in their heads what MS’ PR strategy is.

As it is, they got lost in a flurry of confusion, simply because they weren’t clear about their message.

  2. I got sent that video a few days after the show its funny, Glad they are going to focus more on games though be great to see whats coming for both consoles.

He says, using “TV” twice in one breath.

    • Surprisingly that’s all the mainstream media have focused on.

I was reading the Metro after the Xbox One was announced. There was a picture of the new Xbox on the front with an article heaping praise about its TV and sports features. And when Amazon listed it for pre-order online there was a new article today which missed out on the above issues again.

I remember when the PS4 was announced there was no mention in the same paper at all!

  4. Run TV i mean VT…

  5. Well since one Xbox exec already said the same thing about the reveal, I won’t hold my breath.

You only get the dog if you have XBOne. “Xbox, gimme a paw”

  7. TV (or similar)……. so it will be a monitor then

  8. TVs? Transvestites? Is that Microsoft’s idea for booth babes then?

  9. Promising news for xbox fans – although i expect they’ll surely cover a few aspects of how tv and gaming will integrate.

  10. Nice. 90minutes of new games. As it should be.
