Skylanders Swap Force Confirmed For Next-Gen

Activision has announced that Skylanders Swap Force will arrive on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when it launches later this year.

Currently slated for an October release, this latest game in the power-selling series will feature 16 new figures which can be split in two halves and combined to make 250 in-game variations. Swap Force will also introduce a new range of default figures. These will be priced at $9.99 with Swap figures running up to $14.99 (as did last year’s Giants.)

Pre-orders have officially opened with launch bundles hovering at the £65 mark. This starter set includes the game disc and three figures as well as an all-new Portal of Power. The updated peripheral is needed in order to activate the latest batch of Skylanders characters. There is no word on whether this new portal can be used with previous iterations of the series.

Vicarious Visions will be leading development duties on all major platforms with Beenox and n-Space working the Wii and 3DS version respectively.

  1. Apart from on Xbox, where swapping figures will not be allowed without permission from the kinect camera.

  2. I wonder how long before a Disney Infinity sequel for next-gen is confirmed. When’s the first game out, august sometime isn’t it? Probably not long after that I would expect.

    • The core game will arrive in August.

Personally I think Disney have plans for a next-gen edition of Infinity but as of late their game strategy has been conservative.

Infinity is the sort of game that will just keep expanding, so they’ve plenty of time to consider a next-gen leap.
