We’ve another bumper weekend of sports today and tomorrow, with the final Lions test having kicked off a short while ago, a spot of Formula One in Germany, the women’s Wimbledon finals today and, of course, Murray vs. Djokovic in the men’s final tomorrow.
Oh, and the weather’s lovely, even if it is far too hot for my liking.
This week, we teamed up with PriceSpy.co.uk to give you a pretty fantastic competition. There’s nothing too tricky to it in the slightest, but if you head over to this post you can put yourself in to win a PS Vita and 12 months worth of PS Plus. Just a little bit snazzy, eh?
Also, last week I did promise to have a little giveaway in this week’s round up, and I’m true to my word. Every once in a while, I get given a little bit of swag at a press event, and from one of these, I have a lovely fleece The Bureau: XCOM Declassified jumper (L) and t-shirt (M) to give away. All I ask of you is to answer the following multiple choice question in the comments below:
Which of the following was NOT a title for the first entry in the XCOM series? (Way back when it was still “X-COM”)
A) X-COM: Enemy Unknown
B) UFO: Extraterrestrial Combat
C) X-COM: UFO Defense
D) UFO: Enemy Unknown
Feel free to look it up with a fancy internet search, or glance over the shoulders of someone else that knows. Just make sure you get the answer right, and your name will go into the hat. Unfortunately, I’m going to limit this to the UK only, because international postage would be a bit of a headache for something as bulky as this.
We’ll be jumping right in with a meet in 2 hours time, with Dizwod hosting a The Last of Us meet at 2PM today. Hopefully a few people will join him for this lovely online game. Similarly, a few more people need to join the revitalised Killzone 2 meet on Tuesday at 9PM, the only other entry in the meets list right now. I wish I was around for that…
You can quite safely assume that there will be some Gran Turismo 5 on Monday night, and Battlefield on Friday, but if there’s a meet you’re looking for, you should go ahead and set it up. All you need to be able to do so is 250 TSA points.
Jim kicked off the reviews this week, giving a review of Duels of The Planeswalkers 2014, a Magic: The Gathering title which he gave a rather impressive 9/10. “DanToo” also got in on the reviewing action, but with the much less satisfying Epic Mickey 2 on PS Vita, which he gave a merely OK 6/10. The Indie Focus for the week saw Gamoc take a look at Element4l.
This tiny handful of reviews is accompanied by heaps of previews flooding down from above Hadrian’s Wall, as Blair wrote incessantly about Nintendo’s recent showcase. He took a look at Animal Crossing: A New Leaf, Super Mario 3D World, went hands on with Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, before capping things off with the numerous upgrades for The Wind Waker HD.
Meanwhile, Jim and Tuffcub swanned off to Sony’s showcase, to go hands on with Sony’s PS4 games. Naturally a lot of this will have been what was on show at E3, but Jim started things off with a preview of inFamous: Second Son. Expect to see a lot more about this over the next week.
Jim’s final piece for the week came as he talked about Desmond from Assassin’s Creed, and how he thinks Ubisoft dropped the ball with the character. Then there was Al’s chat with James Marsden from Futurlab about the birth of the most excellent Velocity, while Aran’s Matter of Perspective took a trip to the post-apocalyptic world of Enslaved: Odyssey to The West.
Last Sunday’s Chronicle featured Wardy-77-, whilst WeView returned from a week away with Tomb Raider. As always, things are rounded off with What We Played hitting #112, and the latest episode of the Podcast.
Over in the forums, there are a nice few new threads which popped up this last week:
- Origami Killer (DanToo) asks what your Gaming Backlog is like.
- Shadow Lawless gives his general thoughts on cameras and voice command in gaming.
- Steven popped round, spotted himself in a mirror and said, “Oh great, Steven is back.”
- “Help me, minions!” cried GTOWN, as he discovered himself flush with £25 of PSN credit. Whatever should he buy?
That’s your fill for this week. Now go outside and collect yourself a little bit of Vitamin D.
Oh, and don’t forget to answer the competition question!
Jones81
I believe the answer is B- UFO:Extraterrestrial Combat, at least I think so
Jones81
also, anyone up the Last of Us meet at 2pm?
for anyone that hasn’t tried the MP yet it’s pretty damn good, one of the best online games I’ve played in ages, seems for perfect for a few meets seeing as teamwork is the only way to play it properly.
I think it’s double XP weekend aswell
Moshbag
The answer would indeed be B) UFO: Extraterrestrial Combat. They really should have picked just one and stuck with it.
TSBonyman
Thanks for the opportunity for some swag!
Answer B) was not a title in the series.
Taylor Made

This isn’t the B we deserve but the B we need. Also, I come back and Jboo is banned? :O And why has the position of resident nutjob been outsourced during my absence!?
freezebug2
Just do an Egypt and retake the position with a coup-de-cuckoo. :P
The Lone Steven
Can’t. They legally own my soul and have banned me from trying to take over TSA or risk having it being shoved into somewhere very unpleasent. :O
freezebug2
