Shadow of the Eternals Kickstarter Aiming for PS4

“Shadow of the Eternals is a third-person action/adventure game steeped in psychological horror, created in collaboration with YOU!” goes the introductory line on Precursor Games’ Kickstarter for Shadows of the Eternals, a spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem.

The game is being developed by the creators of the original game and will feature “an eclectic cast of heroes and villains,” spanning “thousands of years of history.” It’s a single-player affair, with a “complete” 8-10 hour experience developed with CryEngine3.

David Hayter, best known as voice of Snake in the Metal Gear Solid series, will star as Paul Becker and he intends “to provide gamers with a provocative and memorable experience on [this] roller coaster ride”, which currently has a target of $750,000 on Kickstarter, raising over $100,000 with 2500 backers in a day, with almost a month to go.

Once the funding reaches the magic number of three quarters of a million dollars, then a stretch goal will be added to bring the game to PlayStation 4. The game is currently slated for release on PC and Wii U.

  1. Not a fan of this franchise but more importantly not a fan of Kickstarter considering the success rates and recent controversies (double fine etc). It’s become clear to me that publishers are far more important to game development, marketing strategy and finances than the supposed creative/financial “independence” kickstarter can offer IMO.

  2. I loved the original Eternal Darkness. However, I will patiently wait for this to actually become a thing before I spend any money on it. The first Kickstarter was a huge fail and they demanded much more money and only promised one or two episodes while this is actually the whole thing? Something still seems fishy.
