Next Generation Tomb Raider Game In Development

Square Enix have confirmed that there is a next generation follow-up to this year’s Tomb Raider reboot in development. This comes after the confirmation of a Tomb Raider comic, which the writer of said would “lead directly” into a sequel.

The news was revealed by the boss of Square Enix, Phil Rogers, in an open letter discussing Square’s financial troubles an restructures, as reported by Eurogamer.

I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may have heard about recently!

It sounds like it’s coming along well, then. There were worries that the publisher may drop the franchise after the first game didn’t manage to meet their considerably high sales targets. No platforms have been confirmed, though we’d expect them to focus development on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

  1. Wohoo, that’s wonderful news and most welcome!

  2. Great news absolutely love the Tombr Raider re-boot.

    • Same here, fella. One of the most entertaining games I’ve played in the last year. Top news.

      • Completely agree and whilst the multiplayer wasn’t great it was at least half decent when played with friends.

  3. The single player campaign alone warranted a sale IMO, but if they added an online/offline co-op campaign rather than competitive multiplyer, then that’d be the cake iced with a cherry atop!!

  4. Can’t believe they’re making another one after the reboot only sold 3 point something million copies. They must be crazy…

Seriously though, Can. Not. Wait. I hope there are tombs this time. That’s the only thing ‘Island Forager’ was missing.

  5. hopefully this will be more of a true Tomb Raider rather than Uncharted starring Lara Croft.

all those set pieces they had in Uncharted, seems like they tried to at least quadruple that number.
by the end my reaction to them was, “oh great, another bloody slide/dashing section/room full of enemies i have to clear to carry on”.

i know they did all those thing in Uncharted, but they knew not to have those set pieces every two minutes, it lessens he impact.
you get bored of them rather than being excited for the next one.

less shooty, more puzzley, more explorationey.
    yeah, that’s a word. >_>

don’t get me wrong, i really enjoyed the game, but many more slidey bits and the disc may have been out the window.
or the slidey bits that lead to a dash, and then another bloody slide. >_<

  6. Aw yiss!

  7. Yes.

  8. Oh yes, Lara Croft + PS4 = big smiley face!

  9. Still need to pick up the reboot, but good to hear things are going well for the Devs at least.
