Toys “R” Us went live with some big news yesterday, listing actual release dates for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launches.
It’s something sure to knock a few noses out of joint at Microsoft and Sony HQ, if correct, but apparently Microsoft will be hitting the shelves first. Toys “R” Us place the Xbox One release date on November 29th, whilst the PlayStation 4 saunters in on December 13th.
So far, so rumour, but BT Games reached out to all parties involved, and got the following, rather intriguing statements.
First up, Toys “R” Us simply stated:
I can confirm this information has been given direct from our suppliers and is accurate.
This was followed by Sony’s flat:
We haven’t made any announcements other than coming this holiday season.
Microsoft completely fails, in the contest to give the shortest possible statement, but gives an equally dry:
We have announced that Xbox One will launch this November, but have not shared any further details. It’s common practice for retailers to use placeholder dates for pre-order items without an official launch date. Please stay tuned to news.xbox.com, where we share the latest official details about all things Xbox One.
No other retailer has, to the best of my knowledge, done with anything other than an obvious place holder date, so on this one Toys “R” Us stand alone.
Naturally, you’ll still want to take this with a pinch of salt. A “no comment” in this instance gives next to nothing away, and we’ll no doubt get the official word at Gamescom in August. Until then, I’d advise that you just keep putting cash to one side as and when you can, if you’re planning on buying on day one.
