Podcast: Episode 109 – Place Beyond The Pines, js13kGames and The Unfinished Swan

Somehow various schedules aligned this week, meaning that Peter, Lewis, Kev and I formed up the full podcast crew for once. As is our habit, we kicked off with a look at the week’s gaming news, touching on topics like the GTA Online reveal and the Xbox One’s launch market changes.

From there we took a meander through Kev’s thoughts on The Unfinished Swan and Lewis’ verdict on Place Beyond The Pines. Unfortunately while Peter had lots he’d been playing, it’s all embargoed. Hopefully he’ll be able to talk about it next week.

Fortunately Kev has been being creative as well as playing The Unfinished Swan. He’s taking part in the js13kGames competition, where you have to build a JavaScript game that take up just 13KB of storage. It’s an interesting little chat about the challenges he’s facing with that constraint, so it’s well worth a listen if that’s your sort of thing.

Then, of course, there’s the weekly quiz and a short burst of listener questions to wrap everything up.

  • Please send us questions via email to podcasts[at]thesixthaxis.com.
  • You can also tag your questions on Twitter with #tsacast and, provided you’re not on a private account, we’ll see them in our search each week. Finally, as usual, there’s a questions thread in the forum.

This podcast features strong language, jokes in poor taste and adult themes, if you’re offended by that then we recommend that you don’t listen to it at all.

  • As usual, you can grab the MP3 file here (right click to download).
  • You might want to get it (when the RSS catches us) on the RSS feed, here.
  • Or we’re on iTunes, when iTunes feels like updating. You can also leave us a review and subscribe there, if you want to be particularly lovely.

  1. Solid release, but not to much to discuss, probably because of Gamescom around the corner, the gaming world slowed down a bit.

  2. I almost forgot :p about The Unfinished Swan: my wife got sick from playing it. I thought it will be a great game for her, since she played Journey and finished it about 5 times (that’s how much she liked it), but while playing unfinished swan she said that the camera movement and gameplay make her dizzy and sick :P
