Grand Theft Auto V is now just three weeks away from release, and you can probably safely say it is one of the most highly anticipated titles at the moment. We already know there is a Collector’s and Special Edition being released of the game, but details of in game content has been scarce. That is until now, as Rockstar have detailed exactly what bonuses those who buy either the Collector’s or Special edition will get.
First off are the bonus weapons which includes a .50 Caliber Pistol, Bullpop Shotgun, and a hammer for extra melee damage. The guns will also have extra customization options, but the hammer won’t. Shame, I was expecting an electric hammer upgrade like the one from The Simpsons’ episode about Edison.
Bonus vehicles have also been confirmed, but this for the Collector’s Edition only. The single player portion will receive the CarbonRS sports bike, and the Hotknife, which has been inspired by 1930’s car design. In GTA Online the electric Khamelion car will be an exclusive, as well as a new garage property.
Michael, Franklin and Trevor will also receive extra outfits and tatoos, as well as a boost to their Special Abilities, which will charge 25% faster than in the standard edition. Trevor’s special ability is rage where he can deal double damage, Franklin’s ability lies in driving and he can slow down time in any road vehicle, and Michael is the gunman so he can slow down time when using guns.
There will also be some Stunt Plane Trials, which are five extra challenges for owners of both the Collector’s and Special editions. These challenges will see players navigate various routes in the mountains and the city, with the bonus of improving the character’s pilot skills.
There will also be extra character options in Grand Theft Auto Online, though again this is limited to owners of the Collector’s edition. Characters are created by using a parent’s option, which will influence your character’s looks. Bonus parent options will include Niko Bellic, and Claude and Misty from GTA III. You’ll also be able to customise your character’s activities, so they’ll do things even when you’re not online, though I believe that’s accessible to everyone.
Remember GTA V launches on September 17th, while Grand Theft Auto Online will launch October 1st.

The wait for this game is now becoming unbearable! I’ve only pre-ordered the standard version of the game which suits me just fine. I’m not really a fan of in-game bonus content such as weapons that do extra damage.
Getting a boost from the very beginning feels like im cheating myself out of the challenge of the game.

I agree and online bonuses are even worse as you are buying an unfair advantage.

Yeah, the only thing that doesn’t seem like a cheat AND that I’m interested in is the car and the extra customization options for online. But I’m not paying extra for it.
What it should have included is a “free” pass for the additional episodes that must be coming at some point, or a “free” upgrade to the possible next gen version.

I wonder how many folk are going to pay £120 for a video game?
RocketSOL
Some people are mad. Have you seen the £1 million version of Saints Row 4? Crazy money.

There was also the Gid 2 for over £100,000. I think the special editions, or whatever they call them, are getting a bit out of hand.

Doesn’t seem like much extra content, is there any memorabilia for them?

According to Game’s website, the special edition comes in a steelbook case, with a blueprint-style map of Los Santos (21.5″ x 26.75″). The collector’s edition adds to that with a snapback cap and a safety deposit bag and key.

OK fair enough. Still, £120 is a little steep with that in mind.
mugsybalone
Yeah, I guess a lot of the price is down to the sense of exclusivity and the “because I can” factor, rather than actual value of the contents of the box.

My Tesco version comes with a blimp. I’m hoping it’s an in-game version.
Kennykazey
Yeah, I don’t want to pay import tax for that.
