There wasn’t a much of a response to LittleBigPlanet Karting, despite it coming up first in the poll. It seems to have been another game that people wanted to hear about, but didn’t want to write about themselves!
The reaction was a bit mixed too, with the first comment from three_leg_jake describing it as alright, without any exposition. Jimmy-google provided a more in-depth comment however, saying that it “felt like a more polished version of Modnation Racers with some added modes” and he preferred it to its rivals, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and F1 Race Stars “due to the number of modes and level of customisation”.
Cam_manutd described it as a “decent spin off with great customisation options and online service” but did find the karting itself – the main draw of the game – to be “largely underwhelming”, not holding up against the mechanics of Crash Team Racing.
Meanwhile DanToo described the game as “perfect” for playing with his housemates, and “just as good” as CTR, with brilliant customisation, though the single player is lacking. It seemed, with all the mentions of Crash Team Racing that everyone had forgotten about the true king, Mario Kart.
That was until Unterred‘s comment, who wasn’t happy with how it played and didn’t think it lived up to Mario Kart:
I love all the other LittleBigPlanet games but this really is a terrible blot on the record. I tried to enjoy this but it’s just awful. Mod Nation Racers handled so much better and apart from the loading times was loads of fun online. It’s nowhere near Mario Kart which is obviously the pinnacle of the genre.
While I wouldn’t say that the karting feels “horrible”, Unterred described it as just that. If you still fancy it after all of that though, then it’s still on PlayStation Plus and if you don’t have that, tactical20 leaves a handy bit of information: “It’s only £5 in Sainsburys.”
So, all in all LittleBigPlanet Karting received one Buy It ratings, three Bargain Bin It (or PS+ it) and one Avoid It from the five verdicts. As for tomorrow, we’ve got Remember Me coming up as it was the top of last week’s poll. Voting for next week can now commence, and Resistance: Burning Skies and Gears of War: Judgement remain, but Animal Crossing and Remember Me have been replaced with Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time and Hotline Miami, so get your votes in before Sunday!
