No Rising To The Challenge As Ryse’s SmartGlass Editor Has Been Scrapped

When Ryse: Son Of Rome was being showcased last year there was mention of a challenge editor for the co-op portion of the game, one where players could create and edit the map to add new objectives. This editor would have been accessible on the Xbox SmartGlass app and once a piece had been created it could be shared with the world so others could try it out. However, that Challenge Editor is no longer a part of Ryse’s future.

“After careful consideration, we have decided to cease development on Ryse: Son of Rome’s challenge editor and focus on improving and expanding fans’ experience with the game through both free content updates and purchased add-on packs. We look forward to sharing more details soon.”

Personally I’ve not had a chance to play Ryse, though I would like to try it out. A reason hasn’t been given by either Ryse or Crytek as to why the editor was dropped, so it could be anything from not being able to implement it properly or a lack of demand.

  1. Simple … didn’t become a mega-seller like gears or halo so MS lost interest and stopped bankrolling the game.
Still upset Alan Wake never got a full disk based sequel … the bastards’

  2. why let people make content when you can sell it to them? o_O

    • Microsoft Logic

    • Or you could look at it as people making your game bigger and better at no extra cost to you (excluding app development)?

‘Hey look at our ever expanding game that just gets better and better!’

  3. I played this game a couple of times at an event and it was terrible, mainly because the controls were so bad
