The Last Of Us Movie Confirmed, Neil Druckmann To Write The Script

Sam Raimi directing.

Film production company Screen Gems has just announced that The Last Of Us will be getting the movie treatment, and that the script will be handled by Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann. Druckmann was the Creative Director behind the game which saw it win numerous awards after it released last year. He won’t be the only Naughty Dog representative as Game Director Bruce Straley, and co-President Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra will help to produce the movie adaptation.

Sam Raimi, director of films such as the Spider Man trilogy, the Evil Dead films, and Oz The Great & Powerful, will be heading the production using the Ghost House Pictures company. Evan Wells had the following to say:

“Our partnership with Sam Raimi, Ghost House Pictures, and Screen Gems to develop a film based on ‘The Last of Us’ universe is a perfect fit. Since our game released last June, we’ve talked with many companies about making a film, but we couldn’t have found better partners who share our creative vision and high standards. We look forward to collaborating with Sam, his team, and Screen Gems, to make a movie that will thrill fans of ‘The Last of Us’ and general audiences worldwide.”

There’s no mention of who is being considered for the roles of Joel or Ellie, or any of the supporting characters. In light of that who would you pick, and do you think a big screen adaptation is a good move for The Last Of Us?

Only one actor has ever truly nailed the leading part in a game based film and that was Bob Hoskins as Mario… Bob for Drake, Bob for Drake!
I actually think Bradly Cooper would nail this role, he’s had an interesting career and never really did an action hero role, but he’s got the cheek and charisma! If it weren’t for the fact I spent two hours dribbling over Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings I might’ve developed a man crush for him. Brilliant film by the way, and if you liked it try Garden State, no connection really except a related theme.

Maisie Williams (Arya Stark from Game of Thrones) would be good as Ellie.
