Outlast’s Whistleblower DLC Dated For Next Month

If you’ve recovered from your first trip to Outlast, then get prepared to be scared once again, as the Whistleblower DLC will be releasing on PC and PS4 next month.

It’ll be available on May 6th for PC and PS4 if you’re in the US, though if you’re in the UK you’ll have to wait until the PS4 store update the next day, on May 7th.

whistleblower

Whistleblower sees you playing as Waylon Park, who is a software engineer who emailed journalists around the world – including the game’s protagonist, Miles – at the start of the last game.

Spending a couple of weeks at Mount Massive, during which he was unable to even talk to his wife and son in Boulder thanks to strict security protocols, Waylon developed a deep-seated distrust of the profit-motivated scientists and doctors leading dangerous and irresponsible experiments on their patients. Identifying with those poor souls fueled Waylon’s anger, and set the stage for his unmasking of Mount Massive’s rotten core.

It sounds quite creepy, as it should, but it will be interesting to see how it holds up when compared to the full game. That screenshot is certainly something.

  1. Still ain’t finished this yet not that it’s scary but I’m stuck & dunno where I’m going

    • Still on the menu, eh? :-P

      • He must be. Scroll up to ‘Start New Game’ and push ‘X’ ;)

  2. I played it for about an hour then deleted it. Couldn’t see what all the fuss was about. I didn’t find it scary, just boring. I even turned the lights out and turned the speakers up for the atmosphere but couldn’t get into it.

  3. Surprised by others not finding it scary, I watch a lot of horror and it still set me on edge! My only problem with these sorts of games is once you have been “caught” a few times the tension is lost somewhat. I hate to admit it, but I think I prefer a good old fashioned jump scare!

  4. It’s interesting how this is in a way becoming a new model for free to play games – the base game is given away for free as a complete product and proper content DLC is released later rather than having people to remove artificial restraints.

Housemarque has hinted at DLC for Resogun, I think it’d be very interesting to see what kind of sales these things get. Seems like a much more positive model, and I wonder how viable it would be outside of things like PS+.

  5. Absolutely loved this game, easily one of the best things I’ve played for a long time. Fresh concept, not the usual shooter, and creating a brilliant atmosphere.
I’m not usually buying DLC, but this is a day one must-have for me, really looking forward to it..! :o)

  6. I will get this, but still have to finish the main game yet. I’m not really sure how far through I am…

    • I’m in the sewers at the moment….

      • If you’re in the sewers, you’ve still got more than half to go. I envy you that you still can experience this for the first time… ;o)
Just try not to look up anything during your first playthrough, it’s all well possible and fun to find your way.
