Minecraft’s Success Keeps On Building As Over 54 Million Copies Sold

Minecraft is one of the biggest success stories of not just the indie scene but the gaming industry as a whole. It has reached the point where whole generations will see Minecraft as one of the most influential IPs of modern times, and no doubt younger gamers will look back on the game fondly when they get older. It’ll will probably take the same kind of place in people’s hearts like Mario and Sonic did for a different generation of player.

Earlier today two Mojang employees, Patrick Geuder and Daniel Kaplan, took to Twitter to reveal the latest of Minecraft’s achievements.

So going by those tweets 15 million console editions of Minecraft have been sold, and that figure outnumbers the PC/Mac version sold. The Pocket edition of Minecraft must be doing incredibly well. The Android version has been downloaded between 5 million and 10 million times, with the Play Store not giving more accurate details than that. iTunes doesn’t give a figure at all. Considering the Vita, PS4 and Xbox One versions of Minecraft are yet to launch the sales figures will climb ever higher.

  4. phil fish should ask Mojang if they think youtubers are stealing from them.
or if they were the best marketing any game could hope for.

  5. Rediscovered this little peach again after leaving it alone since GTA5 came out and loving it.
It’s the game that keeps on giving.
