Uncharted Movie Slated To Start Filming Early Next Year

The long awaited Uncharted movie looks like it might finally get rolling early next year, as that’s when director Seth Gordon thinks they will begin filming. “I think very early next year. That’s the plan,” Gordon said in a recent interview. But he also noted that, “that’s like tomorrow, essentially, because the prep is so complicated for the movie.”

When asked about the vacant leading role for the film and how the story might relate to the game, Gordon had this to say.

I want it to be a great actor. That’s number one, and then if it’s someone who has an actual jaw, that’s even better. The game is so well done that you need it to live up to that. There’s no way we’d do the inverse of that where it’s somebody famous who can’t [act].

I love the complexity and frankly the sophistication of the storytelling in the game, and we aspire to that — but don’t want to tell the exact same story, of course — so something that doesn’t break the rules of what it did but expands. Because I feel like the people who play the games and know them well don’t want to just see the same story told. You want extra shades.

Now before we get too excited about this let’s not forget about the development madness this movie has gone through just to get where it’s at. Gordon is the third director to sign on, and after all the excitement/outrage of Mark Wahlberg being given the leading role, he backed out as well. I guess we’ll have to wait for a while longer before we know who will be filling Drake’s shoes but at least the project seems to be moving forward.

  1. I think you just have to not get your hopes up about these films of games. Could well be the worse thing since unsliced bread…..

    • No kidding. Remember the Doom movie? Utter garbage.

      • Actually, the Doom movie is one of the better ones & not half bad if you just turn your brain off & enjoy it for what it is – A mindless action flick based loosely on a video game property.

Mortal Kombat (the first one, not the abomination the second one was) is another goodie. The Hitman movie wasn’t half bad either.

There are a few out there that aren’t half bad if you are prepared to take the subject matter with a pinch of salt & not spend too much time to think about them too much.

      • I wonder if the Uncharted film will have a third-person shooting scene… Or maybe climbing, that’d be even “better”!

  2. Please. Don’t.

  3. Oh Dear God, i hope they don’t screw this up. Anyone know who wrote the screenplay?

  4. I reckon that they’ll get drake to play drake

  5. Yep, I have no interest in watching this. The only video game related films generally worth watching are animated ones.
