Bungie Throws The Doors Open For The Destiny Beta

Everyone’s gone a bit Destiny mad this past while, first with the Alpha a few weeks back and now with the beta in full swing. You may not have had the chance to experience what Bungie has crafted so far, as you didn’t receive a code. However, if you’d like to then good news as the developer has announced that the Destiny beta will be opened up to those that didn’t get a code. Only stipulation is that you need either a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold account.

The Beta has been eye-opening so far. We’ve watched the world of Destiny come to life. Guardians from every platform have arrived at the Tower from their battles in the wild. We have watched your adventures with great interest, and listened to your feedback. Your missions have provided us with volumes of discoveries we can use to prepare for the launch of Destiny in September.

Our work is not done. There is more we can learn. To make this happen, we need more Guardians to play. This is, above all else, a test.
So from 4PM PDT, which is midnight here in the UK, you’ll be able to join in the war against the Fallen by exploring Earth. Or you could suit up in the Crucible and decide to turn your weapons against fellow Guardians.

  1. Well that’s a kick in the teeth for Xboxers who predorderd, not only did they have to wait for the PlayStation Beta to go first, they then open the door to everyone a few days after.

  2. This is clearly a sign at how popular this has become, as Bungie gave away 3 codes per person, yet even more people are desperate to be apart of the beta. I would be interested to know the number of players before they open it up to everyone.

  3. I might as well give the beta a go so i can say definitively whether it’s for me or not.

  4. Yay, I’ll get to try it out on Xbox as well then!

  5. I’m loving the Beta and the potential scale of the full game is very exciting.

My only comment is that there’s a lack of distinction between the classes at the moment. I think applying class based logic to a FPS is great (and something Borderlands has absolutely nailed) but, having played all three classes to the level cap in the Beta, I’m struggling to see a real difference other than in the grenades / special attacks. The Titan seems to die just as quickly as the Warlock and the Hunter seems no more agile than the Titan etc. It would also be interesting to see weapon proficiencies between the classes. A hunter gets a boost with the Scout Rifle, Titan with the Auto Rifle etc…

It’s still a great game though. Looking forward to September.

  6. Very good..! As I completely missed the Beta code sharing, I’ll try this sometime over the next couple of days, before dashing off for holidays on the Alps… :o)
