July NPD Results: PS4 Continues To Dominate, The Last Of Us Takes Top Spot

July’s NPD results have released showing the monthly trends in the US, charting both hardware and software sales. Through July Sony once again took the top spot with the PS4 in sales, which would have gone to help pushing it past 10 million mark. This is the seventh month that Sony’s latest console has come in at number one.   Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us was the best selling software across generations, while Minecraft came in second place.

1. The Last of Us (PS4, PS3)
2. Minecraft (360, PS3)
3. FIFA 14 (360, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Vita)
4. Watch Dogs (PS4, 360, PS3, Xbox One, PC)
5. Mario Kart 8 (Wii U)
6. Call of Duty: Ghosts (Xbox One, 360, PS4, PS3, Wii U, PC)
7. Grand Theft Auto V (360, PS3)
8. Sniper Elite III (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)
9. NBA 2K14 (360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, PC)
10. Lego Marvel Super Heroes (360, PS3, 3DS, DS, PS4, Wii U, Xbox One, Vita, PC)

Nintendo also announced that over the last seven months sales for the Wii U console have risen 60%, compared to the same period of last year. July 2014’s software sales also dropped by 15% over the same time last year, and this was attributed to more money being spent on hardware instead.

  1. good to see wii u sales picking up. my ps4 and wii u combo is the best gaming set up i’ve ever had, love them both

  2. On sale for three days… Best selling game across all generations. At least now we know we’re getting a sequel.

    • *obviously I meant platforms not generations.

  3. That’s depressing, seeing a year old game at number one. Ok, so there’s the somewhat unnecessary PS4 version, but still not what we want to see. Where’s all the new games?

Oh, right. Summer. Can’t have anything new to entertain you when you might want to avoid endless sport on TV and keep out of the heat.

  4. Nice, it looks like the HD remaster is giving the PS3 version a sales boost too.

  5. And rightly so. Yes it’s remastered. But jeez it’s the best game out there right now!

It’s still absolutely incredible. The soundtrack along can bring a man to tears ha.

Sony and the Naughty Gods rule!!!!

  6. Ps4 is outselling the Xbox one by a whopping 8:1 sine the last of us launched.

It’s basically sweeping up last gen 360 oowners that missed out last time around.

    Smart move by Sony

    • Have you got a source for those 8:1 figures?

        W/E 2nd August

        PS4: 84k units in Europe
        XB1: 12k units in Europe

And please don’t say VGChartz isn’t reliable, as that’s laughable, as it was perfectly reliable last gen when Xbox360 owners used it as the bible for sales figures..

      • Yes its been like that in Europe for a few months, but its only about 2:1 in NA, which is just as impressive really, given recent success for xbox there.

      • It wasn’t reliable last gen and I don’t consider it reliable this gen.

      • I take it maths isn’t your strong point Mr Blighty – “out selling xbox one by 8:1”

        W/E 2nd August

        PS4: 84k units in Europe
        XB1: 12k units in Europe

        Last time I did my 12 times tables at primary school 12 x 7 = 84

        So it’s a 7:1 ratio.

      • Never heard of that site but I’ve never been one to obsess over sales figures so have never really seeked them out. You seem to have a major grudge against Xbox, I’d suggest letting it go and just enjoying your gaming. I’ve never seen you post anything positive.

      • Not really obsessed over xbox one sales figures. There is a MASSIVE discrepancy between what Microsoft are begrudgingly reporting (a 2:1 advantage to the PS4) and reality.

My Gf works in a game store and its been 6:1 or thereabouts sonce launch. The story seem consistent across the board. So where are the millions of unsold xbox one consoles and why are Microsoft using them in their sales figures.

Last time i looked, including consoles that were hijacked by Somalian pirates didn’t count..

      • Ok mate, I could go through your old posts and see how many are about xbox sales vs any other topic but I think we know what the result would be. I’ll leave you to get on with smashing up xboxone consoles for the night!
