Rob Riggle Has Been Cast As Frank West In Dead Rising Movie

Legendary Entertainment has confirmed that comedian Rob Riggle has been cast as Frank West in Dead Rising: Watchtower, with the movie itself debuting on the Crackle streaming service.  It’s isn’t quite clear how close to the events of Dead Rising the film will be, though from reading the little blurb Legendary has released it doesn’t look it will stray too far from the core narrative of the game, focusing on the conspiracy behind the outbreak of the zombie infection.

Dead Rising: Watchtower takes place during a large-scale zombie outbreak. When a mandatory government vaccine fails to stop the infection from spreading, the four leads must evade infection while also pursuing the root of the epidemic, with all signs pointing to a government conspiracy. Politics, public paranoia, and media coverage play an important role in the story’s narrative.

The additional cast announced today includes Harley Morenstein of Epic Meal Time, Keegan Connor Tracey from Bates Motel & Once Upon A Time and Aleks Paunovic from Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters.  There is no release date yet for the film, though late 2015/early 2016 would seem like the most logical option to go with.

  1. Is this real?

This film will be launched on the ‘Crackle’ streaming service (never heard of it). The service promoted with the strap line of “Watch hundreds of movies and TV shows”, yup, hundreds. The site for this service shows that it no longer operates in the UK, it’s closed down.

The lead in the film is a comedian who’s not exactly a household name outside the USA.

A supporting actor is a guy who makes YouTube videos, a couple of which I’ve just watched are talentless drivel.

The signs aren’t great for this film’s success.

    • Riggle looks a bit like Bruce Campbell, that’ll probably carry the whole project.

      • I’m not sure that the lead actor looking a little like an actor from another franchise will pull the audience in. That said, it might just become one of those surprise cult hits.

      • I’m trying to think of an example where it’s happened before, it’s on the tip of my brain, some awful fantasy film and its sequel with the lead played by a Liam Neeson lookalike. Argh, can’t remember! Either way, it was still probably a flop, I watched it because I though it was Liam! Yeah true this might become cult, have you ever heard of Iron Sky? I’m pretty sure no one saw that, it’s not great but there’s some excellent one liners and it made me giggle a lot.

  2. He has the look down perfectly but I can’t imagine this will have the budget to do it justice.
