Sega Plunder Their Back Catalogue For Movie And TV Shows

Sega are to raid their back catalogue and turn the titles in to live action and animated English language titles, starting with Altered Beast, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Rise of Nightmares and Crazy Taxi.

The company has as hired former Break Media executive Evan Cholfin to oversee the projects as head of  Tokyo-based Stories, a company set up by Sega and Hakuhodo DY Group. Sega also made an investment in All Nippon Entertainment Works which will allow them access to  twenty  Japanese rights holders allowing even more licensed shows to be made.

I can see Crazy Taxi working as a comedy TV show and Altered Beast could work well as an episodic live action series, there is plenty of fantasy on television at the moment, Grimm and Constantine spring to mind.

What Sega games would you like to see turned in to movies? A Sonic movie is already in production and Nintendo are getting on the act with rumoured Super Mario Bros. movie, both of which are being produced by Sony.

However ,movies of games seem to take forever to be made, Metal Gear Solid, Shadow of the Colossus, Dead Space and Uncharted have all been in pre-production for years. The Assassin’s Creed movie has been pushed back to 2016, the Minecraft movie recently lost it’s director and the Bioshock movie was cancelled.

  1. I would love to see an Ecco the dolphin movie :D or Ristar :) those would never happen but could you imagine it

    • Benedict Cumberbatch to play Ecco.

  2. Shenmue the movie.

  3. Streets Of Rage could be good depending on the casting. They need to be convincing fighters. That said, the plots were pretty bland so might need work!

  4. Samba de Amigo: The Movie!
