Strategy Title Sid Meier’s Starships Announced For PC, Mac & iOS

Firaxis has announced the newest game that will have Sid Meier’s name on it, and that is Sid Meier’s Starships. In this strategy title you control a fleet of those ships as they venture through the galaxy completing missions, gathering resources, and getting into battles with other fleets. There will be customisable ships which I presume level up as they complete missions, and survive battles. 2K Games has also teased that there will be some connectivity between Starships and Civilisation: Beyond Earth, though no details have been give on that front.

Sid Meier told Gamespot:

“When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth…My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration.”

Some images of the game were also released, showing the similar hex grid strategy layout in Sid Meier titles. The various images show some combat as well as an overview on different units on a map, and the resources that are scattered around. Sid Meier’s Starships is the second space based strategy game to be announced this week, with Battlefleet Gothic: Armada announced over the weekend. That takes place in the Warhammer 40K universe.

  1. I wish they’d bring more things like this to consoles. The ones there were on ps3 were amongst my favourite games of the generation, civ rev, ruse, endwar, xcom. All very different but all strategy games, not enough on consoles imo.

    • Yes, I loved Civ Rev and especially RUSE, such a shame that didn’t sell better (though I understand it sold quite a bit when they reduced the digital version to a few quid in some sales recently).
I’d love more strategy games on consoles, but I guess they’re not popular enough in console format to justify the cost of doing console versions…

  2. Alot of massive scale sci fi space games seem to be in development, compared to very few in the last half decade. I wonder if they took the $50m and counting that star citizen has raised in funding.

    • Ended the last sentence too soon. Should have finished with “as an indicator of the genre’s popularity”.

      • my thought exactly, still more games the merrier in this genre =)

  3. I’d love to see this on PS4.
