Graphical Parity Not An Issue For Overkill’s Payday 2: Crimewave Edition

Overkill are intending to squeeze the most out of both the PS4 and Xbox One in terms of performance, but  if they can push one of the consoles further than the other, they will.

Producer of Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, Almir Listo, has explained “It would be unfair of me to say that they’re going to be identical, because hypothetically speaking we can make the PS4 make better stuff than the Xbox One does, then why shouldn’t we do that? If we can take it up a notch, improve the frame rate a bit or whatever, why wouldn’t we do that?”

Due to the extra power of the latest consoles, Listo is hoping that the remaster will “feel completely different” for those players who are used to 720p/30fps. The current-gen release will boast an improved frame rate and full 1080p.

The communities for each platform have been very vocal in the past with regards to the performance of each machine and this decision by Overkill may see some backlash. Listo continued “Obviously we’re aiming for parity between the platforms, but then again each platform has its own challenges and improvements from the last-generation,”

Payday 2: Crimewave Edition is set to release on PS4 and Xbox One in June.

  1. Good for them. I hope other developers don’t hold back one version to make it the same as the weaker version.

    I’m getting a bit fed up with certain developers prioritising the weaker console at the expense of the stronger one. Even prioritising because a company is paying to advertise the game is wrong. I swear the reason the PS4 version of assassins creed unity isn’t better than the xbox one is because Microsoft paid to advertise the game so ubisoft made sure to prioritise the xbox one version over the PS4 version.

    Realistically the difference in CPU speeds between the systems is minimal compared to the huge advantage the PS4 has in gpu and ram speed.

  2. I agree. It’s so important for developers to push themselves to get the best out of each machine, although I can understand the frustration of people who may be see it as getting a ‘less than perfect’ version of the same game.

  3. Each console some has its strengths to be played to. Some games lately have had more detailed textures and stable framerates on the xbox version but higher resolution on PS4.

    • More detailed textures? Which game(s)? Must have missed that one.

      Framerate is understandable for cpu limited games as it’s now cut and dry that the X1 cpu has the edge.

      • Evolve & Resi Revelations 2 are more recent ones.

  4. They say ‘improved’ framerate, but not 60? Unless the original ran at a choppy 20-30fps, then I don’t quite get what the framerate will be improved to…
