Hellblade Gets A New Trailer, And A New Twist

Ninja Theory’s Hellblade has been bubbling under the radar for a good while now and at last we have a gameplay trailer.

We also have some more information about the story and it’s a little different to what you might of been expecting.

“Hellblade tells the story of Celtic Warrior Senua and her journey into Hell,” explains Dominic Matthews from Ninja Theory. “The Hell in question is no ordinary Hell, but is in fact a Hell that is the manifestation of Senua’s mental illness. Senua experiences psychosis, including hallucinations and delusions, as well as suffering from anxiety and depression.”

“It is a subject that we are handling with all the respect it deserves, ensuring that our portrayal of Senua’s condition is both accurate and sensitive,” he adds.

To help with the game the team are working with Professor Paul Fletcher, a professor of Health Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge, and consulting directly with people who have experience of mental health difficulties. They are also partnering with Wellcome Trust, a global charitable foundation which aims to build a greater public understanding of science and health.

Not quite the straightforward hack and slash game we were expecting, but it sounds intriguing nonetheless.

  1. Damn, i’ve been looking forward to seeing this but can’t watch the video at work.
Interesting direction on the story too.

    • I just watched it for you… at work. ;)
It’s looking quite good & different to what I expected.

      • Thanks bud! :)

I loved the look of Heavenly Sword so i’m quite keen to see how this is shaping up, i’ll have a proper look when i get home.

      • I’ve watched it now, it is looking quite different from HS gameplay-wise. We only saw a snippet of combat though so hopefully there’s more footage be shown at E3.

      • Rather than a hack & slash, it looked a bit more like… Wait, block, counter kinda thing. Altho, that is coming from a brief couple of seconds of what may be gameplay.
