PlanetSide 2 Faces Server Downtime At Launch In The EU

Though it’s been in beta testing for quite some time, Daybreak Game Company were forced to take the servers offline following the game’s official launch yesterday. The servers have since been brought back online for the US, but are still unavailable in the EU.

Following Director of Developement Andy Sites’ Twitter feed shows that Daybreak have been tackling a number of issues over the last 24 hours, but the initial culprit for the continuing EU downtime seems to be a problem with purchases, both in game and on the PS Store.

Meanwhile, demand for space has been very high in the US, and Daybreak have activated additional servers, as well as performing spot fixes to prevent player warping, reduce lag and improve performance.

The work continues, but in the meantime, there’s a new launch trailer to whet your appetite for some functioning EU servers.

  1. Looking forward to finally sitting down and playing this.

  2. Not the best start. Sounds like they weren’t expecting this to be popular if they need that much extra server space, makes you wonder why they bothered porting it to the PS4 if they felt that way. But I have it downloading now, and I’m looking forward to giving it a go. I’ve heard mixed reactions from friends on the beta, but I’d like to see for myself, fingers crossed, it will great fun.

    • The reason for the EU downtime doesn’t appear to be server load but issues with the PS Store. That’s an issue in the US, but there they have quickly reacted and brought more servers online to accomodate the high demand.
