New NieR Automata Details Emerge

NieR Automata made a big splash recently with the first official gameplay trailer being released at Paris Games Week. Director Yoko Taro and producer Yosuke Saito have now shared new details on the game during recent interviews with Famitsu and Dengeki.

One of the most interesting points is that the game has multiple protagonists, although the specific number is unclear as Saito says there are “two characters”, while Yoko Taro feels “like there are three.” The game also has a bit of a happy ending according to Taro, although Saito believes that while the whole story is good some people might question if it’s okay to have an upbeat ending.

NieR Automata will take place in the same world as the previous title, but during different era. The team wanted people fresh to the series to be able to understand and appreciate the story, but they tease that there will be characters and events present that will bring a smile to players of the first NieR.

Other small details include the presence of a light costume-break system when the player character takes damage, the possibility of customizing the ranged weapon known as a “Pod”, and the idea of possible DLC costumes for the protagonist.

  1. Hope it keeps the RPG elements of the first game.

  2. looks more like a DMC game than an rpg now.
but then Platinum do know how to make those kinds of games, so it could be good.
hopefully the RPG elements are still there in some way, and they haven’t completely changed genre.

i really need to get round to finishing the original one of these days.
