News Snatch: XCOM 2, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Hellblade, And Uncharted 4

Avengers Disassemble

Well hello there, we haven’t done this for a while have we? Welcome back to News Snatch, a round up of news that has fallen down the back of the TSA sofa and only rediscovered when Dom lost the TV remote and we had to search for it. First up, a trailer for forthcoming PSVR release, World War Toons.

Frame Rate Scandal News! There’s a bit of a difference between the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. The PlayStation 4 version will run at 1080p and 60fps, whist the Xbox One version runs at 1080p but half the frame rate, just 30fps.

A very limited and very expensive statue of everyone’s favourite mass murderer, Kratos, is to be released and will set you back a mere $499. Try asking Santa, you never know.

The loveable Shovel Knight is getting his own amiibo. It’s out in Europe on December 11th whilst our American chums can pick him up early January.

A couple more screens for XCOM 2 showing a deserted town. Spooky.

EA are aware that Star Wars: Battlefront is a rather shallow experience, but it’s meant to be.

“We had designed it to be a much more accessible product to a wide age group,” explains Electronic Arts Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen . “So, an eight-year-old could play with his father on the couch, as well as a teenager or 20-year-old could play the game and enjoy it. It is more accessible. And for the hardcore, it may not have the depth that they wanted in the game.”

The excellent Transformers: Devastation soundtrack is now on YouTube.

A new cut scene from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, featuring a rather old looking Sully and new character, Nadine.

Time for some improbable boobs, this is Valkyrie Drive Bhikkhuni which is coming to PS Vita in Japan. Fans of improbable boobs may be interested to know there is an official “Improbable Boobs” tag on TSA so you can search for them.

One of the reasons why Final Fantasy VII Remake is being split into sections is they are adding a lot of content, not just remaking the original maps.

“For instance, players will be able to explore many different areas of Midgar in this game that they couldn’t access in the original,” said director Tetsuya Nomura . “If we’re remaking this world, we want to add in areas like this and depict them with real detail.”

“Of course, there may be parts that are cut from the original for various reasons, but with all the new depiction that we’re adding to the game and the level of detail we’re incorporating, the overall amount of content is only going to increase. I’m sure everyone is anxious about the schedule, and we want everyone to get to play the game as soon as possible, too. Drawing the line on that front is another reason why we’re taking this approach.”

He also confirmed the rather pervy cross dressing scene between Cloud and Don Corneo will be present in the game.

Oh yeah, daddy’s home baby, come to daddy!

A dev diary for Hellblade, focussing on motion capture.

And Finally, footage has emerged of a cancelled Avengers game, another casualty from the demise of THQ. Shame, it looks rather good!

  1. On that quote from an EA exec about SWBF, “an eight-year-old could play with his father on the couch”. They obviously didn’t design it very well as the game is PEGI rated a 16.

    • Ha yes, not to mention that EA guy is shallow if he thinks an 8 year old is not intelligent enough to play even the most sophisticated multiplayer games. I wasn’t that far from that age playing the infinitely more fulfilling original Battlefront game on PS2. I think as a chief financial officer he should keep to the financial side of things and hire a PR person, a clever one.

    • Ah bugger you beat me to it, I was just about to say exactly this.

  2. Wow, they’ve really made Sully look awful. He looks like he should be wearing a pocket watch and eye piece, smoking a cigar in front of a log fire. I’ll laugh if he’s involved in a fight scene.

    • Years of plundering, firefights and smoking that same old cigar will probably do that to you. I would not say he looks awful but more ragged and tired.

He is in the mp beta ;)

  3. Shouldn’t we be asking santa monica for the statue.

  4. So is it just me or is the background of the video for the Kratos statue and the background for the dancing ballerina, almost exactly the same? Coincidence or penny pinching?

2nd, please, please announce XCOM for the PS4. I need that in my life!

3rd and final point, have we not seen that avengers game before? It looks awfully like a superhero game that was cancelled a while back.

    • I think that was a cancelled X-Men multiplayer game.

      • You might be spot on with that. yeh.

  5. EA, if you want to create a Star Wars games for 8 year olds, create a game for 8 year olds. Making SW:EA Battlefront or SW:Batlefront EA and making it crap is insulting. THe lack of content, the collection crap, the lack of content and being medicore is insulting. You could have done what BF3(the leaked version) was going for. I’m certain 8 year olds would love SPAAAAAAAAACEEEEE combat. Does this mean they are aware that age ratings mean little nowadays and will target younger players? :O

Kratos statue? Er… no. Just no. You can buy probably both the X1 and PS4 for that price.

That improbably boobs game, er….. i know it’s cultural differences but er…. they are….. NEXT TOPIC!

  6. I have a sudden hankering for a Fallout/XCOM mashup game.
