Some New Details Of What Remains Of Edith Finch Revealed

Early last year Giant Sparrow gave the first details for What Remains Of Edith Finch, an exploratory title focused on death that will be exclusive to PS4. At the time the developers stated the game would concentrate on the deaths of different family members, but didn’t really give details into how this would be achieved. Now in an interview with OnlySP Giant Sparrow’s Ian Dallas has expanded on those details.

You’re coming to these different stories, and not only do the controls change, but the time period, who you are and what your concerns are. Narratively it changes as much as it does mechanically. It gets back to that idea of keeping the player on their toes. We’re trying to evoke the sense of the unknown, and one of the ways you can do that is to make players feel as if they’re always beginning again, opening your eyes for the first time.

The time period Dallas mentions will span from the early 1900’s to the present day, and the stories within What Remains Of Edith Finch will have different lengths, some spanning a few minutes while others are longer. In total the game will roughly be as a long as The Unfinished Swan. Perspective will also play a part as the stories you experience will be told to you via Edith’s versions of events, so not all of the truth will be present.

What Remains Of Edith Finch is currently scheduled to release at some point this year.
