You Can Now Buy Black Ops 3 Multiplayer On Its Own For PC

For the very first time, you can now buy the multiplayer for a Call of Duty game on its own. Activision have released the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Multiplayer Starter Pack on Steam for £11.59/$14.99, which does almost exactly what it says on the tin.

There are a few caveats beyond the obvious of not having access to the campaign and Zombies game modes, or the easter egg modes of Dead Ops Arcade II and Nightmares mode. You can only play ranked matches, so no custom games, and cannot Prestige or “Fresh Start” your profile – your profile is capped to level 55, as well. And once they’re released, you’ll also be excluded from mod tools and modding content and the unranked server browser.

The most important thing is that you’ll be able to dive in and play the multiplayer for a fraction of the price, but if you then think to yourself that you’d like to play the other parts of the game, you’ll be able to do so with the Starter Pack price deducted from that of the full game.

It’s an interesting move from Activision, but is it one that you’re interested in? Would you like to be able to buy individual parts of future Call of Duty games on console?

  1. Probably a smart move, if they can charge the same for map packs. Good model for people who are just interested in playing – and not worried about their rank etc.

  2. Thats a pretty cool move. It would be even cooler if they did the same for the other parts of the game as well, Im only interested in the SP campaign myself. IMO, MP is no better than it was in Modern Warfare and Zombies mode peaked in World at War..

  3. Makes a lot of sense and might be the early signs of developers phasing out the game’s (largely unplayed) campaign modes.

This article doesn’t mention it but the guys at Gamespot seem to think that this is a limited-time offer, so it might be worth picking it up soon if you are thinking of getting it.
