News Snatch: Uncharted 4, Overwatch, And Kick Off Revival

Mellow greetings, what seems to be your boggle? Time for another round up of news, dev diaries and other bobbins that just wasn’t quite interesting enough to warrant a full post on TSA. First up, gaming legend Dino Dini – an incredibly sensitive man, who inspires joy-joy feelings in all those around him – talks about reviving his classic Kick Off franchise on PlayStation.

The Chinese Room, the chaps who gave us Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, have briefly talked about their next game, an isometric RPG called Total Dark.

“It’s a much more traditional game, an isometric adventure with a free-floating camera and lots of mechanics,” explained Studio director Dan Pinchbeck. “That will make some people happy while other people are going to wonder if we have the right experience to make that sort of game. But we absolutely do. Because most people know us because of Dear Esther and now Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, it’s easy to assume that’s the kind of game we will always make and have always made.”

Here’s a live action (with an awful lot of CGI) trailer for Doom, directed by Joe Kosinski (Oblivion, Tron: Legacy). Simon says, “Die!”

NowTV is running a special offer with PlayStation in which you can sign up for three months for the price of one. There is no contract so you can stop paying after three months if you want, and by my calculations that’s just enough time to watch every episode of season six of Game of Thrones, although doing so may incur a fine of five credits for repeated violations of the verbal morality statute.

Final Fantasy XI has finally closed after running for fourteen years on PlayStation 2. The Xbox 360 version has also shut and was running for ten years.

In other Final Fantasy news the next game, XV, will include a New Game Plus mode which carries over your weapons and stats but makes the game much harder. I must’ve done something right in a previous life. Can’t imagine what that could’ve been.

Watch Dogs 2 has been mentioned by Ubisoft a couple of times now although there has not been an official big reveal, expect that at E3. However, you can already pre-order the game at Gamestop.

Enhance your calm people, Blizzard have updated Tracer’s much discussed over the shoulder pose in Overwatch with a new one which is a little more cheeky rather than just being cheeks.

Naughty Dog have decided not to include the comedy “Donut Drake” skin in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, because laughing at fat people isn’t big or clever.

“I thought we’d matured beyond that,” said game director Neil Druckmann. “We actually had the whole thing modelled and in there. We had a big debate about it and kind of approached it from all kinds of angles and decided we weren’t comfortable having it in our game.”

We are looking for a murder-death-killer, are you gonna help us? Special Tactics, an “intense simultaneous tactical action-shooter” is out on Steam on April 26th priced at £10.99/€14.99.

Looks like there’s a new shepherd in town as Millenium, with players from Great Britain and Ireland, were crowned champions of the Call of Duty World League PlayStation 4 Pro Division Stage 1 Finals last weekend, making them one step to the $3 million USD worldwide prize pool.

Vidzone never gets a mention anywhere these days but it’s still one of my favourite PlayStation apps. Here’s this week latest additions.

If you think Uncharted 4 looks good then Naughty Dog will agree with you, but they can do better. “There is no doubt that the next thing we do, we’re gonna get even more out of that PlayStation,” said Lead Designer Ricky Cambier.

And Finally, are you finding this lack of stimulus to be truly disappointing? Maybe watching this blooper real from MLB The Show 16 will help. Be well!

  1. I tried Vidzone again last weekend after forgetting why i stopped using it previously. After the first song i got a 30 second advert, another 30 second advert after the second song, and then three 30 second adverts after the third song. I’ve deleted it again now.

    • That used to be a good app, there only used to be a 30 second ad every 3-4 songs. Then they went overboard and ruined it.

    • I dont get adverts. At all. Dunno why :)

      • I used to be able to get around the adverts by using an alt PSN ID (different region) but after a while the adverts found their way through again. I might take another look at that option though.. :)

  2. FIFA 16 is now in the EA Access vault…
just a random bit of news for you

  3. Sneaking a few Demolition Man lines in there lol

  4. Shame ND have bought into the political correctness trend in current gaming, it was fun to run around as donut drake.

    • It was equivalent of putting someone in a fat suit just to laugh at them for being fat, which as they say is very childish. Try and find a video game with a chunky character who isn’t designed for laughs, most of them are such as Rufus and his silly belly wobbles in Tekken x Street Fighter.

The ladies are slowly winning their war against being objectififed and sexism, perhaps the chaps should start fighting for more realistic characters, someone who is carry a pound or two and doesnt have muscles like the hulk.

    • It’s not really political correctness. It’s more of ND going “Hmm, it was funny for the first three games but is it really worth doing the gag skin as Fat Drake?” then deciding against it. They also probably realised that it is rather childish and is just the gaming version of going “HA HA! You’re a fatty fat fat fatty.”

That said, it is a shame they didn’t include it just to finish off the franchise with the running gag of fat drake but they have expressed why they don’t want to and it’s a decent reason.

  5. Interview with Dino Dini was fascinating. :-)
