It Looks Like The Ghostbusters Movie Is Getting A Tie In Game This July

Remember when movies were getting tie in games constantly? It was an almost expected part of the promotional push, with most of the games turning out to be quite rubbish. Well it seems Activision isn’t ready to let that tradition die as a Ghostbusters game looks to be heading to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on July 12th. While it doesn’t look like it has the main cast of the film involved, it is being reported by USAToday that the game is linked to the film.

The majority of tie in titles theses days seem to find their audience on the mobile market. I’m not counting the recent Deadpool game as a movie tie in since it was a remaster of a last gen game, though it was obviously re-released due to the movie hype.

  1. I miss movie tie in games! I guess they are too expensive to make to a good quality these days.
Lord Of The Rings had some fun games and King Kong on the ps2 :)

  2. Men Origins Wolverine was a brilliant movie tie-in.

G-Force was pretty good too if you like Ratchet & Clank style games.

Avatar: The Game. It wasn’t perfect but I completed it 100% on two different PS accounts. I’m playing Far Cry Primal at the minute and it would make the perfect Avatar game with a few tweaks here and there.

Can we class the new Ratchet & Clank as a movie tie-in or does that fall into the same bracket as Deadpool?

    The Lego Movie Videogame?

    • How could I forget Toy Story 3: The Game! One of my favourite movie tie-in games last gen.

  3. Oh right, the movie tie in genre is rather dusty at this point. At least, on consoles and any notable films. On mobile, on the other hand, a lot of pure 100% A grade shite.

As for the game and the film.

Ok, i’m going to say this and if i come off as sexist, that is not my intention. Also, if you are going to go “eff off if you don’t like the new film, sexist!” go kindly look in the mirror and be ashamed of yourself.

I dislike the concept of Ghostbusters returning because it just has a female cast. A film should never exist just because it has X gender, Y race and well, the trailer is kinda shit. The film kinda looks awful and i don’t really care about the cast being male or female. All i care is if it looks good or not. Sadly, it seems that any critics of Ghostbusters(the reboot) will be branded as either sexist or that other thing that i refuse to mention as it will kick off a shinstorm of shit. I hope i am wrong about Ghostbusters and that the trailer was just a bad trailer. If not, then yay! Another childhood film to be ruined!

Thanks Hollywood! Thanks for ruining more crap with crappy reboots. YAY!

    YAAY!

    I hate hollywood a lot.

    • I’m really struggling to understand your dismay here.

How can this new version of the film can ruin the original version? It’s not like the original has been recorded over or otherwise erased from history. If any film was going to ruin the original then it surely must be Ghostbusters 2 which was woeful. You’re clearly not going to watch the reboot anyway.
Maybe, however, a load of people who weren’t around when the first one came out will enjoy this film for what it is.

      • From my perspective, it’s the reasoning behind the new film that frustrates me and that it feels like they’re taking obvious traits from the old crew and simply transplanting them into the new crew. It’s shameless and the trailer looked fu**ing dreadful. It does the franchise a disservice.

The second film I found enjoyable just not as good as the first but, my opinion is only that. Opinion.

      • It’s pretty much what Mike said. I hate reboots that exist just for the sake of rebooting and well, they are making a massive fuss about it being an all female main cast. To that, i say, so what? If that is the only thing worth mentioning, that tells me that it will be an awful film because they forgot that films need quality story telling, music and if it suits it, jokes.

So far, it seems to be reduced to forced slapstick and sterotypes.

I hate sterotype comedies that go “Look, here is nerdy, they do nerdy werdy stuff. Here is the fat man/chick, he/she eats.” etc..

And somehow, the CGI looks worse then the original. And the original looks good! How can they do that!? In fact, i think, PS1 FMV CGI provides better content then the CGI ghosts.

Oh and they pretty much gave away the main part of the film that is probably meant to be a twist.

Hollywood, STOP RUINING THE FECKING FILMS BY TELLING US EVERYTHING!

      • I particularly agree with what Steven said about stereotypes. You can’t be all about equality then have the standard “can use computers = uber geek” stereotypes.

    • I was looking forward to the new GB film. I thought ‘Bridesmaids with Proton Packs’ but a movie that respected and paid homage to the original. Sadly any interest I had in the film was lost when I saw what is possibly the worst trailer I’ve ever seen for a film, ever. Overuse of bad CGI is unforgivable. Should have used practical effects like the original and only minimal CGI if absolutely necessary. I’ll still watch it but I’m not expecting anything more than Yogi Bear: The Movie quality.

      • Bridesmaids with Proton Packs it is! I went to see a Fast and Furious film years ago and was treated to a seven minute trailer for Bridesmaids. It seemed so out of place, almost like the creators don’t know who they’re aiming their film at. The new Ghostbusters is similar. Good luck to the guys making this game, hopefully your marketing people do a decent job for you!

  4. I’m putting this out there. Am I the only person on earth who was around at the time (maybe about 10 years old) that has never seen the original of this film? I guess my love of football got in the way of watching it. If I want watching football I was playing football, my Commodore 16, sneaking into my sister’s room to play her Commodore 64 when she was out or setting fire to some things. If my sister’s reading none of those last 3 happened ;-)
