Community Round-Up: 30/04/16

It was a nice surprise when I realised it was a Bank Holiday weekend only yesterday, but it sadly means I haven’t really got anything exciting planned. What about you guys though, is anyone up to anything nice or escaping away somewhere?

Meanwhile TSA has also been a little quiet recently, but that won’t stop us in our quest to complete this week’s Community Round-Up!

From the reviews, we had two high scorers this week, both sitting on an 8/10. Alienation, the spiritual follow up to Dead Nation, is “a slick and polished twin stick shooter, filled with huge explosions and seemingly endless enemies to kill,” according to Stefan. Our other 8/10 was for Severed, a PS Vita exclusive from the developers of Guacamelee. It’s a first person dungeon crawling game which utilises Vita’s touch controls to great effect, as Aran put it.

Dropping a point to a 7/10 now, and we had LOUD on Planet X, another review from Aran. It’s a rhythm game with a “fantastic tracklist”, but Aran did note that some of the songs weren’t always synced up correctly – something of a major issue in a rhythm game as you can imagine.

The last two reviews of the week were unscored ones. Episode 2 of Hitman, set in Italy, was very enjoyable for Jim for the most part, even if there were a few moments of frustration as he waited for NPC’s to get into the right position. Other than that, he’s found there to be loads to do, especially as you level up and unlock new tools to carry out your silent (or not so silent) assassinations. Finally, and with all the rumours of this year’s COD flying around, it was appropriate for Stefan to look at the Eclipse DLC for Black Ops 3. Overall, he concludes the map pack is “really quite strong and distinctive visually”, and that the new Zombies map has quite a few little brain teasers to solve.

On to the previews now, and the last of the round ups from Rezzed featured Mekazoo, The Dwarves & Shadowhand. Stefan was also impressed by the tilt-shift style of Tokyo 42, before going hands on with I Am Setsuna. His last preview looked at the open world nature of Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, with the release only a couple of months away now.

Elsewhere, Aran looked at the VRMMORPG (Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online RPG) Sword Art Online (it’s a bit of a mouthful!), while Jim asked if Paragon is the MOBA that’s ready to conquer consoles.

This week’s Open Forum asked for your thoughts on the highs and lows of the Xbox 360, while the Chronicle last weekend featured PS4K news, and Amazon Prime exclusive purchases.

Finishing up, Episode 218 of the Podcast said goodbye to Kev, and also marked a short break for the show itself. What We Played was a little late this week and only showed up this morning, so be sure to head over there and tell us what you’ve been up to!

Time to open up the Forums and have a look!

Enjoy your long weekends, and I’ll be back next time, bye!
