Amy Hennig Teases Concept Art, Talks Gameplay for Star Wars

At EA’s E3 conference this year, we got a tiny insight into the development of the new single-player Star Wars games coming out in the next few years. One of these is being developed by Visceral Games who are well known for the Dead Space franchise and most recently, Battlefield Hardline. The game’s story is being written by Amy Hennig, who penned the stories for the first three games in the cinematic Uncharted series.

While she was attending the Star Wars Celebration this past weekend, Amy Hennig gave us a few clues to how the development phase is going, to exactly how the game will feel:


The process that I’ve been using is really similar to what I did with Uncharted, to be honest.

If you’re trying to re-create that classic–in Uncharted’s case–pulp action adventure experience, you need to deconstruct the films so you know how to reconstruct them in an interactive context as gameplay.

The end goal is by the time the player has finished playing they feel like they really did play a Star Wars film. So I’ve done the same thing for Star Wars. What does that mean? It’s getting the structure right. It means you have to understand where the act breaks fall, where all the obstacles and reversals fall, and the set-pieces. [You need to know] what are all the component parts that make up a Star Wars story.

Amy had also teased that within the concept art for the game, there were multiple clues hidden among them. From the little we’ve actually seen, the game really does look like an action-adventure with an ideal cinematic camera for the experience.

EA has made is clear that the Visceral Games studio has been working closely with Lucasfilm so that the new characters, locations and music are a perfect fit for the expansive universe of the Star Wars franchise. This entry in the Star Wars franchise hasn’t been named yet, but we do know the game is expected to be released sometime in 2018.

  1. I hope the game doesn’t come off as an Uncharted clone aka platforming, collecting, cover shooting. Would be cool to have something more in Bounty Hunter/Jedi Knight Academy territory for a refreshing change.

    • I guess its far too early to comment, but i will anyway ;)
      Judging by the concept art in image 1 & 3, this could well turn into an Uncharted clone – those imaged definitely have the Uncharted platforming look. Saying that, I can’t remember the last cover shooter game I played with a laser gun or blaster whatever they’re called, that could be quite cool.

      • That’s exactly what I thought looking at the concepts, concerning as I don’t want Uncharted in a Star Wars skin.

  2. Can’t she be original & come up with something else that’s not going to be classed as a clone on Star Wars skin. After all the best of uncharted was when she was not there.
