Doom Update And Double XP Go Live Tomorrow, Unto The Evil DLC On August 5th

It’s a big seven days for Doom, starting with tomorrow’s release of Update 2, which adds a ton of new content to both multiplayer and SnapMap in a free patch and is being celebrated with a double XP weekend. That’s then followed on 5th August by the first premium DLC, entitled ‘Unto The Evil’, which comes with the generous PartyPlay feature.

Update 2 features two new multiplayer game modes – Exodus is a dynamic form of one-flag CTF and Sector is capture and hold – both of which are playable on all existing and future maps. There’s also a ton of new features for SnapMap, with customizable weapon wheels, custom jump pad logic, 30 new Hell-themed modules, a new playable demon, and a bunch of fixes.

Unto The Evil is to be priced at £11.99, containing the following new content:

  • Three new multiplayer maps: OfferingCataclysm, and Ritual
  • A new player-controlled demon: Harvester
  • A new weapon: UAC EMG Pistol
  • New equipment: Kinetic Mine
  • New ways to customize your DOOM Marine, including additional armour sets, patterns, colours, and taunts
  • New hack modules

What makes this nice and generous is the PartyPlay feature. If you own the DLC, anyone in your party can play them when they come up in the map rotation, which isn’t new to the world of videogames, but is one of my favourite business practices when it does crop up. My only concern is that this implies that players without the DLC will simply be booted out, so hopefully DLC maps will only appear in the standard rotation is all players have access.
