It’s clear to see the parallels to classic TV series like Twin Peaks, The X-Files and even more modern shows like The Killing and True Detective. Variable State’s game Virginia is set in 1992 as FBI agent Anne Tarver investigates a missing person case in Burgess County. You do so without a word being said.
The whole story is wordless, told through exploring the world and finding items and objects, as well as the animation and expression from the characters in the game. It’s also to be backed by a soundtrack from Lyndon Holland and recorded by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
Virginia is heading to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows and Mac, on 22nd September. Those on PC can download and play a demo right now via Steam, which I’m rather tempted to do when I get a chance.
