The Uncharted Movie Has Lost Its Release Date

The Uncharted movie has once again vanished from the release schedules having previously been tipped from release in June 2016, and most recently June 2017. The latest release date was looking very unlikely as production has yet to begin on the film based on the Naughty Dog game.

Last month Joe Carnahan was brought in to write the script for the Uncharted movie, the latest in a very long line of writers including Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker), David O. Russell (Three Kings), Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer( Doctor Strange), David Guggenheim (Safe House), and Cormac and Marianne Wibberley (National Treasure).

Carnahan has previously directed Smokin’ Aces, The A Team movie, and episodes of Blacklist. Naughty Dog’s other big IP, The Last of Us, has also entered movie development hell.

  1. An Uncharted movie might have been a good idea when they first proposed it but i can’t see it happening now that the series has ended.

    • But they are spawning the film based on the previous series, wether the series has ended, surely that wouldn’t stop the film being made, they have enough content to cover.

      • I have no doubt they have enough material but usually movie/game spinoffs are tied together promotionally, so i’ll be surprised but hopefully not diappointed if the movie does get made.

  2. I think it was just a big ask doing the film, uncharted is fantastic as a game so let’s just leave it at that. Who ever plays drake would get a lot of hate.

Plus it would just feel like another Indiana/tomb raider film, I can’t see what they can do much to make it stand out

    • I’d watch the hell out of it if they could make it like Indiana Jones! (the old ones that is, not the reboot)
