Something For The Weekend – 08/10/16

We’re only 5 days away from the release of Playstation VR. Who’s excited? Whether you’re going all-in or watching from the sidelines, this week could be a pretty important step in cementing VR into mainstream gaming.

In the News This Week

Fairly Big Poll

No, it’s not as big as Tuffcub’s occasionally Massive Poll, but it’s still fairly big. With PSVR being released on Thursday, we want to know if and when you’re planning on getting one?

Games in Review

It was quite a busy week, I’m sure you’ll agree, with plenty of VR games and a wide range of scores.

This Week’s Features

Dave kicked off his week with a look at how well the XCOM 2 console port fares. Although it’s clearly a game designed around PC, he calls it a “relatively reasonable alternative” if you’re PC isn’t up to spec. Another game PC gamers should be aware of by now is Civ VI. With solid foundations already in place, Dave says that “the signs are encouraging”.

It was a relatively quiet week for Stefan, as he only brought us one preview! However, it was for Dishonored 2, which is shaping up to be an absolute treat. If you enjoyed the first one, then chances are you’ll love this one.

Admittedly, Stefan did also put out a bunch of PSVR reviews, as well an unboxing video for the system. It got some interesting comments…

Elsewhere, Jim can’t stop playing Uncharted 4’s Bounty Hunter mode. It’s similar to COD’s Kill Confirmed mode, and Jim describes it as “easily the best addition to Uncharted 4’s multiplayer so far”.

Speaking of Call of Duty, he also loved playing the Modern Warfare Remastered’s campaign again, believing that the revival could see the game “easily standing shoulder to shoulder with 2016’s best online shooters.”

Finally, this week’s What We Played featured PlayStation VR, FIFA 17 & Gears Of War 4.

Your Achievements

It looks like it was a quiet week for most of you trophy hunters. That said, CR8ZYH0RSE managed to get the platinum for both Oceanhorn and Trine 3, as they now move onto Final Horizon.

Aside from that, a couple of you such as MrYd and TSBonyman have been working through this month’s PS+ offerings, while FIFA 17 has captured the attentions of Crazy_DelDividSmythe, WaxBull and mclarenrob2.

A few of you also mentioned Mafia 3, but who do you think will get the fastest platinum?

The Week Ahead

With PSVR releasing on Thursday, and the tons of launch titles come alongside, it could be quite an expensive week for some of you!

Enjoy your weekend, and I’ll see you again soon!

  1. There are a lot more launch PSVR titles than i thought there were, i’ll have to take a closer look and see if any of those appeal to me.

    • Yeah, there’s plenty of choice. I’ve limited myself to two pre-orders (DriveClub VR & Super Stardust Ultra VR) but there are a few others I would like (EVE: Valkyrie & Hustle Kings to name two) but going to wait until I’ve tried the demo disc before deciding what else to get. There’s also the VR experiences that were posted yesterday that look like they’re worth a look too. We’re spoilt for choice!

      • Sounds like two great games to start with – enjoy! I’ll be getting a proper demo from a friend who has preordered PSVR so i might be convinced to follow suit soon enough.. lord help my wallet!

  2. Quite a list for VR launch titles indeed… you’re doing a great job convincing me of this gadget… I’m increasingly tempted…

  3. VR? I’m not. I’m an old school controller and console kinda guy. Damn young’uns and their fancy VR.

I am looking forward to finding out what the hell is available on the last gen version of WWE2k17 as there is literally no confirmed information about it beyond the roster. Either it is just a roster update which i suppose, I may get it but it would be nice if it has career mode and most of the new features. Creation Suite won’t make it but i would be happy with career mode and the new fighting modes.

Will there be a note in the review about what and what isn’t available on last gen?

  4. have sony instituted their own idiotic parity clause lately or something?

no mods on Fallout after the Xbox gets them first, yet farming simulator will apparently get them when both versions launched at the same time.
ok so, Fallout will eventually get mods, but in a very restricted way on ps4.

no Ark, because sony doesn’t allow early access apparently, the fact the Xbox got the game first had nothing to do with it i’m sure.
yet they let somebody sell beta access for a free to play skiing game?
they wouldn’t let them sell that just because it#’s ps4, and PC, only, would they?

and they’re still charging for that “free to play” Tomorrow Children game.

seems like these days sony are doing all the boneheaded things ms did last gen and the beginning of this gen, and doing the good things sony did last and early this gen.

i tell you, if the next gen was starting right now, i think for the first time, i’d go Xbox first.

now i’m under no illusion that ms really cares about the customers, no big corporation does.
maybe some of the people at ms do, maybe some at sony too, though with sony that seems to be conditional on you being American.

    • It seems to be a copyright issue and Sony being very paranoid about being hacked again. BEthesda games have a ton of stuff included in the modding community and often is copyrighted stuff. On PC, Bethesda won’t get into any trouble as it’s all under fair use and no profits is made. Well, unless Google buys out Steam then it’ll turn into Youtube levels of censoring. Sony? They seemed to want BEthesda to literally check every single mod and that impossible to do. Even with an automatic system, it wouldn’t work well. MS are familiar with PC gaming and I think they just applied their PC policies to console mods. Sony isn’t and copyright is one of the main reasons it seems.
