Report Suggests Wii U Production Will End On Friday

Eurogamer has stated it has received reports from multiple sources that Nintendo will be wrapping up production of the Wii U this Friday, with the company switching its attention to the Switch. The Wii U hasn’t been the success story that Nintendo had hoped it would be, and across its four year lifespan there haven’t been a lot of big hitters in the software department bar games like Mario Kart 7, Splatoon, Mario Maker, and Super Mario 3D World.

Nintendo revealed last month that since launch 13.36 million Wii U’s had been shipped along with 92.35 software units. That confirmed that the Wii U was the worst performing Nintendo console since the company started in home console business. All eyes will be on the Nintendo Switch now as the company aims for both a home and portable market with the console.

Nintendo are yet to confirm the reports.

From the heady days of the Mega Drive up until the modern day gaming has been my main hobby. I'll give almost any game a go.

  1. Not sure I’d be tempted to buy it cheap to coin some of the gems on the system, not with Switch on the horizon and so many games at the moment. Mind you, I’m a soft touch for the no TV and portable factors.

    • The Switch is what the Wii U should have been.

  2. Tragic machine. Had one as a secondary console and it lasted all of five minutes. Best thing was playing SF2T on the controller screen.

  3. Bollucks, was kinda hoping it wouldn’t end until next year as I kinda would get one and am rather distrustful of used hardware. It was dead on arrival as it turns out releasing a new console during the early days of the new generation of consoles with specs that are just a bit better then the current one(at the time) was a really bad idea. I mean, who would have thought that?
