The Division’s Survival Expansion Will Require Players To Cope With Cold And Illness

Ubisoft has revealed the first real details regarding The Division’s Survival expansion, which will see 24 players competing with each other as well as the elements to secure the loot in the centre of Manhattan. The Division’s entire map will be open with each player starting from a different point. The environment will be subject to a blizzard and players will have to make sure they keep their characters alive, as the cold, illness, thirst, and hunger will all play a part in how long you survive.

Clothing gear will have a cold rating with the better ratings protecting against the blizzard conditions better, while you’ll need to find medicine to combat illness. However the more medicine you consume the less effective they become. You’ll be able to take shelter in certain places, where your character can warm up a bit. There will be no mini map either so you’ll have to rely on your own sense of direction to reach the centre.

The centre for Survival is in a Dark Zone with high level enemies, as well as every other player potentially being there. From here there is a package to extract and the person who does gets the goods, while others will lose out. Rushing and fighting won’t be an option because if you are downed and not revived your session ends, because Survival has no respawning. Characters also have no skills at the beginning. A session should last around two hours, as at that point player characters will die.

Survival is yet to receive a release date.

  1. Every time I see a Division article, I always go “huh? Ah, right. That exists.” I keep forgetting it was released this year and i can’t help but think that this should have been a feature of the core game. Could have done a lot with just coldness and illness features and perhaps, conquer…

actually, i can’t even recall what people said about this.

Two hours seems excessive for MP and I can see it becoming who can camp the better.
