The Ratchet & Clank Movie Listed As One Of The Biggest Flops Of 2016

This year’s Ratchet & Clank game was all sorts of awesome and has recently become even better thanks a PlayStation 4 Pro patch. It’s a shame that the movie didn’t get quite as much love.

Forbes has compiled a list of the biggest box office flops of 2016 and our favourite furry eared Lombax and metal chum are in fifth place, taking just $11.8m box office from a $20m budget. You would think that Sony and partners would be doing their best to flog the movie on the home market, but no, you can’t even buy the movie on Blu-ray in the UK, only DVD. It came out in August, in case you wondering.

Here is the full list of rubbish movies.

10. Masterminds ($22m box office from $25m budget)
9. Snowden ($34.3m box office from $40m budget)
8. Grimsby ($28.7m box office from $35m budget)
7. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot ($24.9m box office from $35m budget)
6. Keeping Up with the Joneses ($26.9m box office from $40m budget)
5. Ratchet & Clank ($11.8m box office from $20m budget)
4. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies ($16.4m box office from $28m budget)
3. Popstar: Never Stop Stopping ($9.5m box office from $20m budget)
2. Free State of Jones ($23.2m box office from $50m budget)
1. Max Steel ($4.4m box office from $10m budget)

  1. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was actually OK, a bit of a laugh and a spin on the classic. Can’t say that about any of the others however.

  2. So this is a flop but Pixels, fecking Pixels which is said to be the worst movie ever made by Adam Sandler is not? Wow. Just wow.

Shame as it seems to be a good video game flick and actually had passion put into it. Instead of being a lazy mary sue filled flick that butchers all character it uses from the games.

Or goes against the games completely. Yeah, I’m looking at you, Hitman!

  3. I was just thinking about getting the ratchet film on the cheap after going through the game again recently. How bad can it be really?

  4. I rented it a week or two back and actually didn’t think it was bad,I thought it was alright.

    • If you are a Ratchet fan it’s pretty good. The same humor and voices but I guess for those not familiar with the franchise it’s probably confusing. I enjoyed it very much on streaming.

      • I wouldn’t call myself a big Ratchet and Clank fan by any means I’ve dabbled with the games in the past, the Ps4 game is really good though and thought sod it I’ll have a nosey at the film I enjoyed it and as I say I’m no die hard fan of the duo.

  5. Huge fan of R&C and I only liked the new game (didn’t love it) and thought the movie was just ok.

The movie cut too much out of the original story and shoehorned the most annoying character of the franchise (Nefarious) into the plot once again, when he didn’t appear until the third game in the original games. So because the plot for the movie was such a mess and the game was based on the movie and the original game, the game was affected too. The game wasn’t awful by any means but it wasn’t a patch on the original. It looked better obviously but they totally messed up the motivations and dynamic between the characters.

It would have been better If they had made a 100% faithful remake of the original game and included the cgi movie as an extra in the box for the fans.
