Valve’s hugely successful MOBA, Dota 2, will receive an update at some point today, bringing the game to version 7.00. Dubbed “The New Journey” it’s making some pretty seismic changes to the core game while introducing an new original hero and some general tweaking.
The biggest and most controversial change in 7.00 is the all-new talent tree. Over time, your roster of heroes will gradually level up, allowing you to purchase permanent upgrades to base stats and abilities. This marks a massive change for the meta game, layering on yet another complex dynamic to explore. There are plenty more significant changes elsewhere, from inventory management and items to hero and map alterations.
Sun Wukong, The Monkey King, is currently waiting in the wings for his Dota 2 debut. He’s a melee focused carry that can wreak devastation by clobbering foes with his staff while leaping between trees, seeking ambush opportunities.
7.00 also ushers in a revised HUD as well as more pre-game options, allowing teams to draw up a game plan before hitting the arena. Community-programmed AI bots are on their way too, as well as general visual improvements and three character remodels (Slardar, Viper, and Enigma).
