Our TheSixthAxis Sonic Game Heroes Marathon Is Over, But You Can Still Donate!

Update 2: Thanks to anyone that watched, shared or donated to Macmillan Cancer Support during the stream. Dave was fantastic through the 24 hours, but while he’s no longer playing Sonic games or mods, you can still donate.

Head here to the Just Giving page and put down as much as you can for charity.

If you want to check out the stream, it’s archived here on Twitch:

Let’s face it, cancer has impacted the vast majority of us in some way, shape, or form. For many, there’s few places to turn to when it happens and it’s usually the work of great charities that make the most difference in peoples lives.

With the release of Sonic Mania drawing near, I’m using this as the theme for a 24 hour gaming marathon for Macmillan Game Heroes 2017, in which I will be playing through the Sonic games found on Steam. Should I somehow expertly clear those games in a timely fashion, I may throw in a couple of others as well.

This will of course be streamed live on TheSixthAxis’ Twitch channel for your viewing pleasure, starting on 20th May at 10:00am BST, right until 10:00am BST on 21st May.

As an incentive to give, any donation over £5.00 GBP will be eligible to nominate a Sonic mod for any of the 2D Sonic Games (excluding Sonic CD sadly…) that can be easily downloaded and subscribed to through Steam Workshop. Depending on the nature of the mod, I may or may not play through the games using those mods.

So why am I doing this? Last year was a tough year for a lot of people in my life who have been affected by cancer. I lost my Auntie Sheila – a remarkable woman who always had a smile on her face whenever I saw her. It’s mainly for her two children, Karen and Greg, as well as the rest of the family and all my friends who have lost family and friends to cancer that I am doing this. I’m sure the rest of us at TheSixthAxis also have people who we care for that have been affected by cancer, so I also do this on their behalf.

From all of us at TheSixthAxis, we appreciate the time spent watching and any donations you are able to give. For those in the UK, please note you are able to Gift-Aid your donation – which is free and allows the charity to get more funding from the government. For those outside the UK, please do not click that box. Below is some information about JustGiving in case you have concerns donating through them to MacMillan:

Should you wish to get an early donation in, feel free to visit the link here, or click the image above. I’ve put a rather modest goal in place, but obviously if as a community you feel like smashing that target, please go right ahead. In the meantime, I’d best prepare myself for a potentially gruelling marathon…

  3. A great gesture, true many of us have lost loved ones to the big C. I’ve made a note on my calendar and will tune in at some stage to provide encouragement at least.

  4. My only concern is the 24 hours but then it has to be tricky! Definitely a great cause and consider me “in” with the sponsorship. :-)

  5. Good cause Dave, and good to see a TSA charity drive! Good luck.
