It was 25 years between the first and second Nintendo World Championships, as Nintendo brought back the mythical competition from the dead for E3 2015 to celebrate its legacy. If you were expecting it to be another 25 years before the third NWC, then Nintendo have another thing coming, announcing that the competition will actually return this year on 7th October.
They’re using the “world” in the title about as accurately as Americans do for the World Series in their peculiar sports, as anyone in the US or Canada can register to compete. All you have to do is  head to designated Best Buy stores in New York City, San Jose with Chicago, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Dallas, Seattle and Miami following later in August and early September – more details here. You’ll have to qualify by playing Mario Kart 7 for 3DS. Nintendo are also adding an under 13 category for younger Nintendo enthusiasts to compete in.
While that might be rather limited, I am rather looking forward to tuning into the finals and seeing some outstanding gamers going head to head.
