Bruce Straley Leaves Naughty Dog

Long time Naughty Dogger, Bruce Straley, is heading for pastures new and leaving the renowned developer after “18 of the most influential years of my career.” He made the announcement on a blog post and says he has no immediate plans to move to another job.

Bruce started at the company as a texture artist on Crash Team Racing in the days “before Naughty Dog even had a coffee maker,” but went on to be co-director of art for Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, and then co-director of The Last of Us and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

“I’m leaving Naughty Dog with the strongest team it’s ever had, and that’s saying a lot,” posted Bruce. “But more than the talent, it’s the people that I’ll miss the most. The work culture at Naughty Dog is about getting out of your seat and solving problems together. It’s what has allowed me to build so many friendships and gain so much respect for this stellar group of people. I get it —“it’s just work” — but when you spend as much time as we do together, in the pressure cooker of creative work and deadlines, you really get to know a person.”

  1. Naughty Dogger *sniggers*

  2. Always had time for him (and Neil Druckmann). Fingers crossed he moves onto ever-more wonderful games development in the near-future.

  3. It’s hard to believe that Crash Bandicoot 1, 2 and 3 didn’t even make them enough money to buy a coffee maker.
