Something For The Weekend – 17/03/18

Beast from the East, Pt. Deux

Well I don’t know about you, but I’m rather glad it’s the weekend after a pretty busy week. One of the things I’ve been looking forward to is the finale to the Six Nations. It’s not quite gone the way I’d have liked – Wales got off to a great start, but stumbled when it really mattered – but there’s a pretty titanic battle between Ireland and England, with the former going for the Grand Slam and on St. Patrick’s Day, no less!

Watching rugby and playing games sure beats heading out into the second wash of unseasonal cold and snow that we’re going through.

In the News This Week

Games in Review

We got through a lot of reviews this week, but what are the best games to come out from all of this?

Reviewed platform in bold.

This Week’s Features

With so many reviews to get through, there wasn’t an awful lot of space for other features to appear. Dom has been spending even more time with Noctis and his chums, first doing so with the intriguingly restyled Pocket Edition and then following up with a look at the comprehensive Windows Edition of the game.

I then sat down to play A Way Out with its outspoken creator Josef Fares. This fascinating co-op adventure has some really great ideas behind it, which can check out in this preview video:

I also caught up with Matt Webster, Criterion Games GM, discussing the remaster of Burnout Paradise, some of the origins of the game itself, and the future of the studio.

Yup, Fortnite is now on mobile and here’s the trailer

Your Achievements

Let’s check in with the community this week, which seems to be made up of older gentlemen taking on the Souls-like genre:

  • TSBonyman has now officially spent 50 years on this planet. Despite his advancing years, he’s more than a match for Dark Souls 3, taking out a boss on his first try!
  • Andrewww isn’t too far behind in the years, and while most bosses are taking a few goes, he beat Bloodborne’s Father Gascoigne in one go.
  • Also getting stuck in with a Souls-like is MrYd, who dropped a few notes on Nioh and has been having a good time with it.
  • Crazy_Del added ELEVEN platinums to his collection: Midnight Deluxe, 36 Fragments of Midnight, My Name is Mayo, Mr Massagy, Suicide Guy, Nubla, The World of Nubla, Bravo Team, Arizona Sunshine and Call of Duty WWII!
  • tactical20 picked up “Sniper 3” (Sniper Ghost Warrior 3?) from Smyths for a fiver, and has been finding his way through the open world quite nicely.
  • JR. thought the first episode of Batman: The Enemy Within was excellent, but wasn’t sure what to make of the FMV-filled The Bunker.

We’ve got quite the week of games ahead of us…

It’s pretty good being back in the Burnout Paradise world and after ten years I can still remember a fair bit of whereabouts of the collectables and stunt locations.
I’m also enjoying The Crew 2’s pre-alpha test, so far it’s much better than the original game.

Yep I would like to get that trophy out of the way, without trying to coax random there like had to in PS3 days, getting 7 in the stadium while the 8th drove to the other end of the map :( got there in the end though :)

Yeah the trophies kept pinging up pretty fast one after another, but not complaining.
      I don’t mind helping get the trophy/ies.

That annoying trophy for getting 8 people in the stadium can apparently be done offline. Or it could be on the original PS3 version at least.

But the way to do it may be more annoying than just getting random people to turn up.

You’re all tempting me to get the game anyway. It was my first PS3 platinum and it might be fun to knock out another one all these years later.
