This Week’s Features
Let’s kick off the previews with Dave’s look at Dream Alone, a creepy gothic platformer that “has quite a fair bit going for it”, which he saw as part of a trip to Warsaw. He also got to go hands on with an intriguing take on the beat ’em up, Sand is the Soul.
Next up, and with battle royale imitations in full swing, Dom investigated how Techland are bringing the genre to its Dying Light universe in Bad Blood, while Gamoc dove into Far Cry Arcade and its community driven multiplayer map editor. In time we hope it will bring some great content once creators have got to grips with it.
Moving on to Stefan’s previews from this week, he began by going hands on with Dark Souls Remastered. The devilishly hard game hasn’t lost anything seven years on, with Tef summing up “this is most definitely a remaster that people have been hoping to see.”
Another series that’s been around for a while is the Elder Scrolls series, for which the Summerset Expansion is an “almost completely blank canvas”, making it perfect for both new players and experienced ones alike.
For PSVR owners, Tef calls Wipeout Omega Collection’s VR Update “practically essential”, describing it as “almost effortlessly one of the best VR experiences going, taking a game that many people will know inside and out and giving you a truly new perspective. This is the kind of game and experience that people think of when dreaming of what VR could mean for gaming.”
Last up, What We Played featured Sea Of Thieves, Extinction & God Of War.

Let’s check in with the community this week:
- Before he was struck down by illness, Crazy_Del grabbed the plat for Far Cry 5 and helped Virtual_Rehality get the plat for Sniper Elite 4.
- 150 hours in, Jag reached the end of Monster Hunter World and hit rank 50.
- Although MrYd said he was away for Easter, he still found time to watch Ready Player One, have a blast on Wipeout VR, Tera (which has some easy trophies from the sound of it), and enjoyed killing the newcomers to Rec Room.
- Pixel_nme earned the platinum for Ni No Kuni 2, and also played Fortnite and Diablo 3.
- TSBonyman said he got his “ass handed to me” a lot in Dark Souls 3, and so for some reason switched to Bloodborne, where he also died a lot!
- Andrewww also played Bloodborne, and found it to be a similar experience in his first chalice dungeon.
- JR. spent most of his time collecting chests in AC Rogue, but is enjoying it so much Far Cry 5 has been left in the wrapper. He’s also been playing this game called ‘Real Life’, and is tackling a difficult level that involves getting his car MOT’d!
- And lastly, ron_mcphatty thoroughly enjoyed a 4-player coop heist in GTA V, and has been straining his eyes playing Tokyo 42.
If you want to be included in this section, make sure to comment on What We Played on a Friday evening.

I’m busy enjoying Wipeout VR in between the F1 sessions this weekend and I’ve got to say it’s much better than I thought it was going to be, same with the graphics. I think it’ll keep me busy for some time.

Tempted to dust mine off.
Highly impressive tech but it just makes me feel utterly dreadful.
Even none-swooshy stuff like (the excellent) Statik is hard for me to deal with.
I should probably just sell it on and be done. :(
Stefan L
Yeah, if you’re not getting on with something like Statik, you’ve got no hope. Make sure the headset is all in focus – there’s some settings to adjust the software’s eye gap, which might help – and that the tracking isn’t off, and just try in short bursts of 10-15 minutes to start with. But VR won’t be for everyone, so if it’s a lost cause for you, best to sell it on a accept defeat.

Been playing with it from 7am until about 7.45am, it’s 8.36 now and I just got up from laying down following another severe nausea laden dizzy reaction.
Such fabulous tech but it’s just not working with me. So disappointing and not just because it was a Christmas gift from my wife.
Still, she wants the new GoW system so it’ll make a solid tradeweight.

That’s a shame you’re not getting on well with the PSVR as it’s rather good.
The first time I tried it at launch I felt a bit sick but after getting the settings just right I’ve had no problems with it. With Wipeout I used the default settings but within a few races I had all the aids turned off.
TSBonyman
That’s a shame. The important thing if you get motion sickness/nausea in VR is to take a break and stop playing immediately instead of trying to work through it. Playing short sessions of no more than 15-20 mins at a time initially might help you get your VR legs over time.

Other advice I’ve seen includes a variety of anti-sickness medication, pointing a fan at your face, sweets or gum with ginger in, and adult activities with or without a friend beforehand. (A couple of those should obviously come with a warning to avoid getting any sticky residues on your lenses, because that’s really not going to help things)
