THQ Nordic Aren’t Doing E3 So They Can Watch The World Cup

As reasons go, it’s an odd one, but THQ Nordic are trading in attending E3 and showing off their upcoming games for being able to watch the FIFA World Cup at a reasonable time of day.

It is with great regret that we at THQ Nordic must report that we will be unable to miss a single moment of this great sporting event. Therefore, we will be forced to stay in our lovely Viennese beer gardens, blowing the froth off a couple, watching football and one or two cool press conferences on Twitch (looking at you, Devolver) instead of rocking it ourselves.

We have to admit, we are going to miss our 9 AM pint of beer in the “Ye Olde King’s Head“ Pub in Santa Monica, where they show all matches live, but with the World Cup being held in Russia, it would mean a 7 AM beer – that’s too early, even for Austrians, let alone the Swedes.

OK, so you won THQ, I’m posting your silly press release, but the real reason why you’re not at E3 is probably that various projects aren’t quite ready to show just yet.

Later in the year, the company will be at Gamescom and PAX West, where they’ll be showing Darksiders 3, Biomutant, Fade to Silence, Wreckfest and announcing some new games.

I'm probably wearing toe shoes, and there's nothing you can do to stop me!

  1. Last time I checked the news regarding Russia, it looks like we’re going to get a World War, not a World Cup.

  2. Sure, the real reason might be just that. But remember that while soccer has a small following in the US, it is huge in some other parts of the world. So much that it sometimes reaches fanatical proportions. One of my acquaintances is blowing a sum equivalent to several years worth of holiday travels just to visit Russia for a few days and experiencing a couple of matches first hand.

Not being a sports fan myself I cannot really understand this. But then again I cannot understand all the fuzz about the US coming to a grinding halt during the Superbowl either.

  3. I was with them until I read “cool press conferences” and “Devolver”. As a company they (Devolver) make some solid stuff but that conference was among the dumbest, most un-amusing shit I’ve ever seen.
