Last year’s Pokémon Go Fest event in Chicago did not go well for Niantic, either at the time or in having to pay out $1.6 million in compensation. That hasn’t deterred them though, and they’ve just announced Pokémon Go Fest 2018: A Walk in the Park, as part of another Summer Tour.
A Walk in the Park will be held on 14-15th July in Chicago’s Lincoln Park with a 1.8 mil walking course through the park’s greenery as well as special events for trainers. As before, tickets will cost $20 for a single day, but it sounds like Niantic have found a slightly better and more guided format for the event.
Tickets go on sale on 11th May and they’re working in partnership with local hotels to get cheaper rates on rooms. For more details, keep tabs on the event site.
For those of us in Europe, they’re hosting a Safari Zone event in Westfalenpark in Dortmund, Germany from 30th June to 1st July. The activities start in the park, but will then spread across the entire city, and this event is free, so it’s just on you to book travel and accommodation. Again, catch more details on the event site.
There’s also a Safari Zone event set to take place in Yokosuka, Japan later in the summer, with more details than that yet to be revealed.
Of course, Niantic will be relying on a hefty dose of goodwill from fans who saw or endured last year’s shambles of an event, but hopefully the company have learnt from those missteps.
