You can file this in two categories depending on how hopeful you feel. Category one is ‘These are just placeholders, a wishlist by Walmart’, whilst category two is ‘OMG THEY JUST LEAKED HALF OF E3!!!!’
Walmart seem to have listed a lot of games that don’t officially exist including:
- Rage 2
- Just Cause 4
- Gears of War 5
- A new Splinter Cell game
- A new Assassin’s Creed Game
- Forza Horizon 5
- Destiny Comet
- Borderlands 3
- LEGO DC Villans
So the question is how legitimate is the list? Out of the all the titles Rage 2 seems stand out, the game didn’t sell all that well so a sequel has never seemed likely, and Gearbox are busy with Borderlands 3. Rumours of a new Splinter Cell game have been doing the rounds, so we tick that one, and we’re expecting a new Gears and Forza – though this should be Forza Horizon 4 – so ticks for them as well, and Borderlands hasn’t officially been announced but Gearbox have been talking about it for quite a while.
The new Assassin’s Creed game is probably a placeholder for a Game of the Year edition of Origins, so tick again, Destiny Comet will be the big expansion launching later this year, tick once more, and LEGO DC Villains leaked a few months ago (Walmart need to use a spellchecker.)
That leaves us with Just Cause 4. Avalanche have been very quiet recently but job listings for the studio do point towards a fourth Just Cause game.
All the titles on Walmart have placeholder box art, and along with the games above they have NBA 2k19, The Division 2, Insurgency: Sandstorm, and a load of other games we already know are coming. The only thing that makes me think this may be a wishlist rather than a leak is that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is listed and development on that has barely even started.
UPDATE: Walmart have now deleted all the game listings.
