Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! & Eevee! Reimagine Pokémon Yellow For Nintendo Switch

The first Pokémon games for Nintendo Switch will take the classic Pokémon Yellow and reimagine it for the console, while also tying in with the hugely successful Pokémon Go smartphone game. Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! will be coming to the console on 16th November this year.

With Pokémon Yellow as the inspiration, you’ll be returning to the Kanto region of the original games, but doing so with a companion Pokémon running around alongside you – either Pikachu as in the original or Eevee depending on the version you buy. As is typical of such dual releases, the games will have slightly different Pokémon to catch, which can then be traded.

There are a number of gameplay differences though, beyond the game simply being in 3D viewed from an isometric perspective. Catching Pokémon now leans on the form established in Pokémon Go, with the need to time a Poké Ball throw, possibly without battling them first. This can be done using the system’s Joy-Con. There’s also a co-op mode where you can pass a Joy-Con to a friend and you both throw Poké Balls and even team up in trainer battles.

The game will also tie in with Pokémon Go, letting you share Pokémon you catch between the two games, though this seems to be restricted to a particular “Go Park” part of the game. More details on how they join up will be shared at a later date. If you wish, you can get a little Poké Ball accessory, where you can trap a digital creature and take it with you. It can act as a Joy-Con during the Pokémon catching phase of the game or be hooked up to your smartphone for Pokémon Go.

Also, for those despairing that all Game Freak have planned for Nintendo Switch are remakes, fear not. At the announcement, they also stated that a new entry in the series would debut in late 2019. (via AppleInsider)

  1. This seems like an aweful idea. I hate pokemon go,the capturing mechanic is lackluster at best and down right aweful at worst. If they improve on the capturing mechanic and allow you to have pokemon battles to weaken the pokemon first then it could work but so far my expectations have been crushed,I was expecting a pokemon revolution, instead I got a pokemon cash grab. What a waste.
