Void Bastards Is A Cel Shaded Spaceship Hopping Roguelite FPS

Coming from Irrational Games co-founder Jonathan Chey and Blue Manchu  there’s some bold claims to Void Bastards, which is a “revolutionary new strategy-shooter” in which you throw and endless string of prisoners at a field a derelict spaceships to make it across the Sargasso Nebula.

Thing is, I’ve seen some of these ideas before (not that this should ever detract from whether a game is good or not). There’s a Roguelite side to it in how each death sees you simply return with a new prisoner under your control, cel shaded graphics and some pretty ridiculous looking weaponry remind me a tad of Borderlands, while the risk and reward of deciding when to push on and when to simply book a ticket out makes me want to play The Swindle again. It does seem to bring all of its ideas together with an element of the freeform Immersive Sim genre, which could be suitably entertaining, and if it’s polished and nicely tuned, this could easily be one to watch when it releases.

Announced at XO18 over the weekend, the game will be coming to PC and Xbox One in early 2019, and will be part of Xbox Game Pass at launch.
