Microsoft have been investing heavily in their game development arm for the last year or so, picking up development studios left, right and centre. Now they’ve decided that calling them “Microsoft Studios” doesn’t quite fit, and have rebranded their game development group as Xbox game Studios.
On now, @mattbooty and I are talking about the name change from Microsoft Studios to Xbox Game Studios, our game dev organization that’s made up of 13 distinct teams responsible for beloved franchises like Age of Empires, Forza, Gears of War, Halo and Minecraft #InsideXbox pic.twitter.com/C8ulNq2JU7

Nothing really changes with the rebranding, as the thirteen teams will still all be working to publish the same games for Xbox One and Windows 10 (and every platform ever, if it’s Mojang), but when there’s an Xbox branding and functionality within Windows 10, it does make sense to find a name that fits.
